Hello all,
I just wanted to take a second to introduce myself. I'm quite new to home theater, and I'm wanting to learn more. I have about a million questions and I will be posting them in the appropriate areas. I have been using a 2.1 stereo set up with a UMC-1, UPA-200, Klipsch RF-82's with a Klipsch SW-112 for about two years now. I am a classically trained trumpet player, and originally just wanted a good stereo setup to practice orchestra music with, but I really have enjoyed the equipment for home theater use when watching movies with my kids, even as a 2.1 set up. I have a little extra cash on hand, found a good deal on a used center speaker (RC-62 for $200), and with the recent release of the XMC-1, and given the glitches in my UMC-1, I am very interested in building a 5.1 set up.
I really like Emotiva as a company. I truly appreciate the opportunity to purchase quality sounding equipment at prices that don't initiate a divorce!
Looking forward to getting to know the forums better....

Welcome to the nut-house - err - lounge! If you want to keep away from divorce court you might want to look into the UMC-200. Its a much better processor than the UMC-1 and it won't cost you years of child support! Pair it up with the UPA-500 amp and you'll have a very nice 5.1 setup for less than half what the XMC-1 alone will cost. Take a look at Emotiva's E-Club and do some math. They have a sale on a few things and the best thing is those sales prices can be combined with the e-club discount for even more savings.

Thanks for the advice, knucklehead. I'm really on the fence when it comes to a processor upgrade. While I certainly like the price point of the UMC-200, there is a lot of talk about the XMC-1 being upgrade-able/update-able for longevity's sake, AND, I have my 40%off card, AND, most importantly, it's assembled right here in the good ole U.S.A.
However, the money saved would definitely help with the purchase of surrounds.... I'll have to think long and hard this week before making a decision.

I have a UMC 200 and love it. And if I had the scratch, I would be loving my XMC-1!
Welcome bro.

Welcome banjobyron. Keep your eyes on the emporium. With the XMC-1 being released a few pre-owned UMC-200s will be up for sale in the near future. (In case you want to hang onto the 40% card).
