All set up with everything except my older Xbox360 that lacks HDMI. Somewhere I have a component-HDMI adaptor. Manual might be preliminary, but it was conceived by thoughtful and logical folks. Remote is not back lit, but the removable cover held on with magnets is a stroke of genius. Bottom line is that, for me, this box would be worth the asking price if Dirac were not on the table at all. I have a dedicated HT with pretty simple acoustic challenges. CDs in Direct mode are entirely different experiences. Both voices, strings and piano come through as though you are in the studio. This is the cleanest sound I have heard, period. The most complicated part of the setup was breaking down the UMC-1 and cleaning out the nest of cables. I decided to start out with HDMI for everything including audio just to make the introduction simple and less cluttered. Given the sound quality, I am not sure that I will put the 7.1 analog cables back in the mix. Used the on board test tone for relative levels with a SPL meter. Took no time to get things balanced for a not too good Jason Statham movie with fairly decent sound. From unboxing to turning the system off for the night (after several CDs and the Statham movie took 4.5 hours. While I have only scratched the surface of the capabilities of the box, what I have learned thus far results in a highly functional pre-pro. Looking forward to more tweaking tomorrow.

(it should be downmixed 2ch) Thanks I was going to try that for you but didn't have anything that I could plug a digital signal into without tearing the XDA-2 out of the bedroom system. Sorry... And congrats to bborzell on the XMC! Nice system there.

Maybe the OP can use his UMC as a test bed feeding toslink out from the XMC while using a HDMI source and seeing what the UMC displays as an input.

I am sorry but I'm gonna have to call your bluff on this one. Where's that blue glow inside the box??? Geebo had an authentic one as we saw from his picture but your so-called XMC-1 is lacking that blue glow. That's not a real XMC-1, now is it?

If you look at the pic of my rack and compare it to the pic of my lit XMC-1, you will see a clearly different blue hue. Yes, Emotiva has introduced a variation on the blue hue for the XMC-1. And, Geebo, in his zeal to be the firstest with the mostest, appears to have planted a phony blue light source in his box. I think it was an old UMC-1 in there.

My profuse apologies - you are so right, we never really did verify what was inside the box causing that glow. Now that I think of it, that was probably the same XMC-1 he had in his rack from a year or two ago. So how are we going to verify the authenticity of these pictures? This thing is out of control already.

Nope, it was somewhat obscured by the black sock on the XMC.

Can you check if you get any output on the digital out with a HDMI source. (it should be downmixed 2ch) Thanks OK, I am awake now. Are you looking to see whether a Toslink cable plugged into the Digital Out on the XMC-1 will be active constantly or only after having set up a given HDMI source to route to Digital Out? Or, maybe something else?

You'll need a digital input on another device (like your UMC-1) to 'listen' on.

I was thinking that I could check the activity of the Digital Out of the XMC-1 by using a Toslink cable that will glow at the other end when it is active. Is the idea to confirm that the output is constantly active or that it is appropriately down mixed?

You should not have to configure anything that I know of.
