Hello Forum:
I attended the Emofest Chicago event with my 9 year old son and was absolutely astonished by the kindness and effort put forth by all the Emotiva folks. From the food/drink, to the raffle giveaways, it was a day filled with learning and excitement. My 9 year old is an early audio enthusiast and was just blown away from the kindness of Dan, Lonnie and Cathy. He managed to talk me into a set of Stealth 6's for his audio/ video cave, to the dismay of my better half, but I digress......
My biggest take away from the event--- you truly feel like your part of something and not just another order number with one of the Goliath companies, to which I hope Emotiva is gaining ground on daily. Taking some pride in their "made in the USA" campaign and putting people back to work, made me glad I spend money for audio needs with Emotiva. Further, I don't know of one U.S. company where the CEO takes the time personally to address you. Big Dan loves what he's doing and it shines through. Keep up the good work as you have two generations of buyers waiting for the next big audio introduction.
Regards,
Ed

My buddy and I went to the Chicago OnTheRoad Event. Got there at opening, thought we would be there and hour or so, split, then come back in the afternoon for the "big" raffle. Boy was I wrong! . . . and very happy about that wrongness! We stayed the entire day and learned a lot. We loved it.
After checking-in who was the first person that happily greeted us? Big Dan himself! He spent quite a few minutes talking to us, answering questions, giving us a very well received history lesson on the company, all the while his enthusiasm for what Emotiva is bringing to market coming through loud and clear! We loved it! I actually felt a little guilty for how much attention he was giving us, just a little, but overall it made me feel very appreciated! We had the same experience with everyone we talked to from the company. Nobody tried to brush us aside once they said a couple of sentences and then move on to the next person. Quite the contrary. All of our conversations were very detailed and everyone was so happy to take the time to explain things to us. It was very apparent that everyone takes a great deal of pride in their work and they want to show off what they've accomplished. I think that's the result of working in an atmosphere of - "Let's do this right", instead of "how can we make it cheaper".
We were very impressed to be able to speak directly with everyone that was there from the company. I think there was only one question I forgot to ask. We got to speak with Dan and Cathy, Lonnie, Nick, Damon, and some others whose names I can't remember (sorry). There was a lot more information than my old brain could absorb and I think all the attendees had a great time.
Thanks to all of you at Emotiva for the great event!

Last year in June I went to Boston Emo on the road and I talked with Dan at least an half hour but the problem is that my English dialog could be a little bit pain for others (my native language is French). Nevertheless Dan was very patient and let me the time to reach my words, great guy, a gentleman. I have the same words for Cathy and every people from Emo at Boston, they were very nice, it was a pleasure to meet them all. It was very surprisingly and interesting for the customer I am to realized that the president of a cie as interested to know his customer at least the same level as he want to show them his products. Emotiva is more than a great audio CIE, it's a very special spirit business and people behind, thanks all of you, I'm so happy to be one of your loyal customer. Excuse my English, I know that when you read me it could be strange but it's the best I can do. Cheers, Francois

I attended the 2014 Chicago Emofest, and had a FANTASTIC time. I got there at 9:30am and planned on spending an hour or two. I had other shopping to do. I didn't leave until after 4:30pm. The free food and drink was great, which meant I didn't have to worry about missing anything. The raffles were great fun. Big Dan and his lovely wife drummed up the suspense, and made us all laugh. They gave away a lot of product! They had special show prices which were 10% off, in addition to the 20% you get as an Emotiva member. I couldn’t pass that up!
Everyone from Emotiva was absolutely wonderful. They answered all my questions, and were very approachable. Big Dan and Lon gave great talks about the XMC-1 and Dirac. I am thrilled they are bringing manufacturing back to the U.S.A. That is a big selling point for me. I don’t have anything against foreign manufacturers. I just think our trade policies are WAY out of whack and need to be adjusted.
The sound in the home theater room was outstanding. The room was HUGE, and the sound was effortless. The XMC-1 has amazing versatility. A lot of thought went into this unit. You could tell Big Dan and Lon are very excited and proud to be introducing the XMC-1.
The XMC-1 runs very cool. Big Dan explained how the power supplies worked, which I found interesting. Heat is the enemy of electronics, and they solved the problem. I was surprised to learn that to use DIRAC, you had to take measurements of your room using a provided (made in the USA) microphone, and then send the results to DIRAC in France, so they can run their proprietary optimizer on it. DIRAC then sends a file back to you to download into the XMC-1. If you move your speakers or make other changes, you have to do the same dance again. If it works as good as Emotiva says, it will be worth the extra effort. Big Dan said for an additional $99.00 (money which ALL goes to DIRAC), you can get two additional settings so you can customize your sound. I’m a two channel guy (2.2 actually), so all this complexity is foreign to me. I was really blown away by the sound in this room. It was a cavern, twice the size of the other rooms.
The sound in the powered monitor room was not so great. I think the room was WAYYY too big to demo these speakers. I’m guessing the room had 20 foot ceilings, and was roughly 30’ by 30’. Each speaker had a very different sound, which surprised me because they are all two way monitors with similar tweeter technology. I expected only a different amount of bass from each speaker, but they also sounded quite different in the midrange and treble. I don’t think the tweeters were at ear height. I came to Emofest to buy a pair of 6s, but the sound did not float my boat. I also did not like the looks of the Stealth monitors. I know this is a very subjective thing, but the Stealth 8 is HUGE and downright menacing. I'm sure to others, it looks like a beautiful black diamond. Big Dan mentioned that Emotiva is working on a new line of speakers that will be very attractive. I spoke to one gentleman (who is a musician), and he absolutely loves his Stealth 8. Several people wanted to hear songs from their cell phones, but for some reason they could not be accommodated.
The two channel demo was hit and miss. This demo was in another ENORMOUS room. Emotiva was using a pair of very attractive Polk towers. No subwoofer. The source was a notebook computer that had DIRAC software loaded on it. They did not use an XMC-1. All the electronics were Emotiva. They were having problems with the software. They usually run it on a MAC, but for some reason ended up with a Windows computer. They calibrated the system with DIRAC before the show, and were able to switch between DIRAC and non-DIRAC. I attended two demo sessions. The first demo session did not impress me. WIthout DIRAC, the bass and midbass were bloated and unbalanced. The midrange and top end were good. WIth DIRAC, the bass and midbass were vastly improved, but I felt the midrange and top end lost their warmth and presence. In the second session, they played the ever present Hotel California. In this session, DIRAC again tightened up the bass, and the mids and high end were OK. I can’t make any judgements on DIRAC at this point because the room was so bad.
Thanks Emotiva for a great day! I can’t imagine all the work, frustration and money that goes into producing these parties. I say party, because that is what if felt like. Well done.
P.S. I’m loving my XSP-1. The subwoofer controls really helped me tighten up the bass in my system.
