Hi all. I'm looking for low effort way to hang an acoustically transparent theater screen about 8 inches or so from the wall. Fixed screen preferably. Looking at Seymour screens with AT and masking. Really easy would be to hang from the ceiling but I don't think I would like that look. Any ideas to suspend from the wall where it kinda of appears to float in space - and hide my front stage speakers which will be wall mounted behind. Some type of steel brackets perhaps?
Ideas short of false walls and such would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mick

You are going to need to figure out the weight of the screen and maskin system first. After that there are plenty of options given they can support the weight. Look into some L-brackets or you can use some heavy duty shelving brackets. The problem you will run into is making sure the screen and frame hang perfectly parallel to the wall (or better stated, perpendicular to the ground). You may need four mounting points, one in each corner. Simply hanging the frame from the top while it is supported by the front wall could cause the frame to lean back towards the wall. Thinking outside the box, will the screen be mounted on a wall that is an exterior or interior wall? If the screen is mounted to an interior wall, have you considered countersinking your speakers into the wall? That should gain you 4-6 inches of space and will only require the screen to "float" 2 inches or so off the wall. A smaller length opens up many more options such as a french cleat or regular mounting brackets and supports on the bottom side. Personally, I would think a screen hanging 8 inches off the front wall would be a bit of an eye sore and would offset the advantage of the speakers being hidden. But that's just my personal taste.
