I am new here and know close to nothing on audio/video stuff.
I received a new XPA-3 amp this week. The sales person at Emotiva said I needed 3 RCA interconnect cables. So I bought 3 Xseries RCA cables. My problem is I don't see where to plug these nice RCA cables on my AVR, a Denon X-4000.
I did insert the small cable that comes with the amp on the trigger 1 output of my AVR and the other end into the trigger input of the XPA-3. Is it OK?
I unplugged my Front Left and Right and my Center cables from the AVR and hooked them up to the amp. Correct?
Now the RCA cables fit well into the XPA-3 but where and how do I hook them to the AVR?
My AVR manual on page 195 and 52 explains the trigger output 1 and 2. On page 35 it shows a diagram on the connection of a power amp which I don't understand.

I am new here and know close to nothing on audio/video stuff. Welcome ramuntcho! I received a new XPA-3 amp this week. The sales person at Emotiva said I needed 3 RCA interconnect cables. So I bought 3 Xseries RCA cables. My problem is I don't see where to plug these nice RCA cables on my AVR, a Denon X-4000. Locate the PRE OUT section on the back of the AVR. You'll have RCA outputs for Front Left & Right, Center, Surrounds, Surround Backs, and Front Height/Width. You'll want to use the Front Left, Front Right, and Center RCA outputs. They route the signal from the Denon to the XPA-3. Also make sure the metal toggle on the back of the XPA-3 is switched up for each channel. Up (unbalanced) allows you to use the RCA inputs. Down (balanced) allows you to use the XLR inputs. I did insert the small cable that comes with the amp on the trigger 1 output of my AVR and the other end into the trigger input of the XPA-3. Is it OK? Yup! You got it! Your XPA-3 will turn on when the AVR turns on. You might have to double-check the Denon manual to see if you need to set up/enable triggers. I can't pull up the manual at the moment to tell you if that's needed. But it's an easy test to find out. I unplugged my Front Left and Right and my Center cables from the AVR and hooked them up to the amp. Correct? Yes, that's right. Make sure you match the colors--e.g. black to black and red to red--to keep the signal in phase.

Eureka!
Answering my own question about the RCA cables. I found the holes in which to plug them.
I put the system on and it works very well; could not be happier.
But I am not sure whether my trigger output and input are correctly settled. The XPA-3 should turn on when I turn on the AVR. Right? It doesn't.

Thanks Dark Ranger and novisnick.
I have been scratching my head the last 2 days trying to find a solution to my problem. By the time you were writing I was searching at the back of my AVR. Glad I found the solution. Your help and welcome words are greatly appreciated.
I will probalbly not be posting often. English is a learned language. French is my mother language. But I like lurking boards like yours and others. I learn alot thanks to you experts and enthusiastics.

You're absolutely right garbulky.

If your XPA-3 is still not turning on when the Denon is powered on, try flipping the main power switch on the back of the XPA-3 to the other position. It should work then...
PS: 2 other things I just thought about:
1) Make sure the trigger cable is a monoaural cable NOT a stereo cable.
2) Make sure the XPA-3 can be triggered by a 150 milliamp signal. The XPA-3 specifications say that it requires < 10 milliamps. I believe this is a misprint and it should say that it requires > 10 milliamps. If this is true, then the Denon has more than enough current to fire the trigger.

Thanks garbulky for the kind words. Merci frenchyfranky. Il se pourrait bien que j’aie parfois besoin de vos conseils. Je n’hésiterai pas. Hé! Le plus jeune de mes trois fils se nomme François just like you. sctI did what you suggested about the trigger connection. My cable is the one that was sent par Emotiva. (included into the ziploc with the power cable). I went to the setup and the whole list under trigger 1 was set ON. And now the XPA-3 is put ON by the AVR. Question answered. Merci beaucoup. Since all items under trigger 1 are set to ON, how come my bluray player does not get ON when I put the AVR ON? It’s a Denon 3313UDCI. I will try to find the way to solve the problem looking into the device manual. Probably by activating the HDMI function: HDMI AMP active. The Denon bluray player and the Denon AVR-4000 are linked by the Denon Link HD cable. OK IT WORKS. I should have posted this as a reply not a new post. I apologize for that

Hi, and welcome ramuntcho.
I am not familiar withg the Denon 3313UDCL (your bluray player), but I think if you run another trigger cable from the XPA-3 trigger out into the trigger in on the bluray, than both the XPA-3 and the player should power up when the AVR is turned on.

retro124 I have this AVR Denon X-4000 and the Denon bluray player since last March. I am retired so I enjoy listening to Internet stations, mostly classical, almost all day long.On denon.com we can choose among hundreds of stations from all over the world. The XPA-3 is a nice machine. It sounds great. Since I am new to all this I did not buy too expansive speakers. Polk Monitors 75T, 2 pairs as front and wide, a Polk CS20 center, a pair of Polk B45 as surrounds and a pair of 65T as rear surrounds. I am not at home right now but earlier today when I turned the AVR off the bluray player turned off, but it did not turn on when I turned the AVR on. I will have a closer look at that on Monday. Since I am not using the player each time I turn the AVR on, I think it may be better to leave everything as it is now. Congratulations retro124, you and I will be happy enjoying these nice toys.

I think that your blu-ray player is activated by the CEC feature of the AVR, if you don't want this anymore, simply disable it in the setup menu of the AVR and also the BD player.

What is the CEC feature of the AVR? I use the french version of the manuals.
I think that turning off the player by the AVR and not turning it on is the right thing to do. Otherwise I would have to turn the player off each time I want to use the AVR but not the player. And I use the AVR more often than the bluray player.

Merci frenchyfranky for the link and the help you are providing to me. I see that you are trying to educate me on audio/video matters. It is a never ending process. At age 74 I will not try to become an expert. We all know that there are many ways to attain an objective. The trigger function, it's what we are talking about here, is working properly now that everything is correctly set. If it wasn't the case, having a Denon pluray player linked to a Denon AVR, provides an other option: the player remote control has a «power amp» button.
Merci beaucoup à tous you have all been very kind and helpful.
