I'm seriously thinking about buying the Oppo 103D around November for a Christmas unveiling.
Some dumb questions.....does Oppo ever have a discount or sale? Also, where is the best place to buy
it from?

No sales on Oppos, they don't have to. You *may* find Oppo selling refurb units occasionally, go to their website to see. You might as well buy the unit directly from Oppo, they are very easy to deal with and ship quickly. Thanks for the reply. I was afraid of that. I've bought and sold on Audiogon. Great place. But since this will be a Christmas present, I think I will buy new. Can't take it with you, right?

You can also buy thru Amazon and it will ship direct from OPPO. I had several hundred in Amex points and was able to apply it to my order with Amazon.
