For best results would you guys recommend a larger size sub (as large as I can or want to go in a small house and for a dedicated music system) or two subs?.

I'll happily second talking to Edward from Adelaide speakers. Absolutely bargain speakers that sound simply amazing. Best bang for buck in the country with out a doubt. I've become a huge fan of TL's these days, all thanks to his designs. Be prepared to have a long chat if you call him up Gary's suggestion for the 1230ETL would be what I'd recommend for a musical all- rounder.

I'm using it with an XSP-1 pre and a UPA-200 power amp. I'm in a wheelchair some putting together a DIY sub is probably something I'd rather avoid, haha. I understand, DIY subs are not for everyone, that's why I suggested having a chat to Edward. XSP-1 + UPA-200 would be a nice combo. Cheers Gary Cheers, Gaz. I'll def give it a look.

I say four subs is best ... stereo subs should be better IMO, but as always, it depends on the design of the speaker used and the room. Get the best Sub you can now, and if it's lacking, add on when the budget allows.

Personally I prefer a single high quality sub, the size of the driver is somewhat irrelevant especially for music. It's much easier to set up (have a read of the XMC-1 bass management thread and get a brain ache), less floor space, simpler connections, sound below 80 hz is non directional and the money saved can be put to better use etc. Cheers Gary

What are you using it with Josh? I'm not a big fan of wasting money on features in a powered sub that I already have in my processor and/or pre amp (ie; cross over slope etc). I have also been surprised at how much difference a decent quality power amp makes to a sub's musicality. Even to a relatively large driver in a dual ported enclosure that some argue would never be "musical". I would also mention that imported speakers have a lot of freight (ie; heavy and full of air) and duty in their price not to mention distributor, wholesaler and retailer mark up. With this in mind, all of my subs have been DIY, but my next one will most likely be a 1230 from Edward, at $895 there isn't a better musical sub that I have heard. www.adelaidespeakers.com/subwoofers.htmlCheers Gary Those subs are amazing, thanks mate. Definitely be going through them!.

I've had better luck using dual subs in two different occasions. I now have two 15" subs and I think is great. I have them paired with magnepan speakers and I challenge you to come take a listen and tell me where the subwoofers are in the room....

I have four smaller sized subs and I'd offer the same challenge. No nulls or voids, bass just happens all around you coming from no singular point. DONT ya just love it?

It'd have to be a rather large apartment for 4 of these: That's no subwoofer, that's a space station! /Obi-Wan Kenobi

I just ordered myself one! I agree with Balladstar, for the Tekton recommendation. I have the Enzo sub and could not be happier with it. I use it with the DC-1, Jolida 1501RC and Tekton M-lore. The Enzo is big but it is spot-on with no real compromise. It is going to be musical, fast, deep and accurate with no boom or mud. I highly recommend it! ENZOAttachments:

I recommend Rythmik's 12" F12 for $874, or if you want to go bigger, the 15" F15 is $974. Both of these subs are sealed and work great for music. I have a pair of F12 subs myself and have found that they are excellent for 2-channel music (or 2.2 in my case).
