Is this correct or do I not have something setup correctly??
While watching SAT TV (or any other input), I push the smart button on the TV remote to watch netflix, youtube, etc. The XMC-1 audio does not automatically switch to the ARC input, I have to manually select the ARC input.
My Onkyo would auto switch when audio was detected on the ARC. Is this the way it was designed?

Hi I had a similar problem with the XMC-1 not switching to my TV sound using the ARC return path (it would do it occasionally but failed to do most times). I fixed the problen by going to the HDMI CEC Menu and selecting the active position for all four switches. See page 45 of the manual. Now my XMC-1 switches most time to the device just turned on. But it still fails occasionally. Pushing the correct input button gives the desired input most times.

Has anyone experienced this Symptom I had this problem too with our LG TV...until I went into the "HDMI CEC" menu and enabled "CEC", "Input Change", and "Volume". I left "Power On" and "Power Off" disabled because I mostly use our Harmony 700 remote to control things and it can get confused if things start powering on and off on their own. Give this a try and let me know if it helps. Good luck!

I gave up on ARC years ago. Heck - the XMC-1 has 8 HDMI inputs - use 'em

I gave up on ARC years ago. Heck - the XMC-1 has 8 HDMI inputs - use 'em True; there's no shortage of HDMI ports; however, if you have a smart tv, ARC is a handy of routing audio from apps running on the TV (like Netflix, hulu, youtube, etc.) to your home theater pre/pro without running a separate TOSLINK S/PDIF cable. It also enables other clever things like allowing the TV to control the volume on the XMC-1. For me, it was worth taking the time to get working.

I have had my XMC-1 from thre beginning. I have never been able to get ARC to work. I am upgrading the HDMI Board in January. Will that finally fix Arc on the XMC-1?

I have 3 XMC-1's, all of which I have upgraded to the new HDMI boards. Two of them work perfectly with ARC and always have (even with the old HDMI board). One of them has *never* worked with ARC, both the old or new boards. The TV just never sees it as a device. Before you claim it's the TV, I have (whilst one was being upgraded/fixed) swapped out the XMC's to the other rooms/TV's/hdmi cables in the house. The one that never works, never works no matter what TV or cable I use. The two that work always work no matter what TV or cable I use. I can't see any difference between them, they've always been upgraded to the same firmware version numbers (currently 5.3) and have always had the same settings in the XMC-1 settings. ARC is voodoo magic, a bit like SCSI interfaces used to be on computers . Maybe I need to sacrifice a chicken :-).

Hahaha! Very funny jra Sensei! I just purchased a Cert Refurb XMC-1 to replace my MC-700 processor. It took voodoo magic (no dead chicken) to get ARC to work on the MC-700. Whenever there was an update on my TV (Sony 65X900E), i would lose ARC sound. I figured it was an HDMI handshaking issue. Whenever there was no sound, I would turn all off and on and it would work again. The picture/sound quality was worth the hassel. I was hoping ARC would work the same with the XMC-1 but no. No sound using ARC. I have contacted Emotiva and Sony. Sony had an engineer talk me though some steps, but no go. He finally said to try a different AV receiver to see if its the tv or the processor giving me the problem. Haven't done that yet. I tried 4 different streaming devices. Decided on the Roku Ultra. Looks good, but still not as good as the picture quality using the TV's built in android tv (ARC). The Roku will have to do as I try different cables, resets and maybe...sacrificing the chicken! Just kidding about the chicken.

Hi all, sorta new guy here. I believe that I am also in the 'ARC never worked' camp ,same as JRA stated above^^^. I bought my re-furbished XMC-1 two years ago during their Black Friday sale. My TosLink optical has always worked fine, but the ARC Hdmi connection does nothing at all (brand new current style cable in use,not an old one) and continues to do nothing even when I adjusted ARC/HDMI settings in the menu and listed on page 48 of the user's manual. To combat the issue I just run the optical cable out from my LG 4K tv to the XMC-1's digital input #1 for regular tv/youtube/internet tv audio, I suspect that it limits the sound quality with some sources, but luckily it still sounds great with the Dirac engaged. I plug my BluRay HDMI output directly into the tv as well, but have a coaxial digital cable plugged into the XMC-1 for audio when I play discs in it. Does this sound like a correct work-around to you? Thanks for any suggestions

The last straw for me was when a 3 year old Sony TV would not work with a new Sony BD player, the Sony tech told me that the only answer was to buy a new TV, what hope is there for mixing brands. Better quality sound for me is far more important than having to push an extra button or 2. Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary Same thing happened with Panasonic tv and Panasonic player, both of the same series using Viera Link. Wouldn't work. Gave up. And they both shared a similar style remote with just a few buttons being different.
