Has anyone used a wall wart to trigger their Xpa5? If so, please describe your setup. I was thinking of using one of those green (switched) power strips to turn on the wall wart when my Oppo turns on and using the wall wart to trigger the amp. Of course, I'd need to clip the wall wart wire and terminate with a 3.8mm mono jack. Will this work?
Edit: please move this thread under amps

I'm curious - since you have several devices that have 12v trigger ports why not use those? A smart strip will work if that is what you really need. I use a smart strip activated by the UMC-200 to power up the Airmotiv6's and provide power to the Oppo tuner and antenna rotor. It works fine as long as video pass-through is turned off.

I do use those currently. I should've actually said UPA2 and not XPA5 . The setup is in my living room and the tv stand is a low profile one and can't fit more than 2 components. Currently, I have all HDMI sources going to the TV, which then has an optical out to my XDA2 which goes to my UPA2. However given limited speaker placement issues, I want to high-pass the speakers and was thinking of replacing the XDA2 with an Oppo. 103 which doesn't have a trigger.

Damn in spite of spending so much time on this website, I had no idea about this product. This is perfect, thanks!

If you need additional triggers I have two PanaMax-1000 surge protector/powerbars that I use for my HT and Stereo. I opened them up and installed a Solidstate relay (the white box in the photo). It takes 4 to 32 volts dc input (like the UMC-1 trigger); the input is wired to a standard trigger connector. It switches up to 40 amps at 120v AC. I have two outlets always on, the rest are switched by the SSRelay. The relay can be overridden by the front power switch.
MY SSR was a Shining SSR-S40DA, but there are many choices available on line.
Sincerely /b

Thanks USNRet and Priapulus - it does look like there are quite a few options to achieve what I want. This is good!

i had an issue just like you. i have a 105 connected directly to a UPA-200 and realized that oppo didn't put a 12v trigger out (or in/out) on the unit despite knowing it could be used as a pre-amp. so, i had an extra mono trigger cable from somewhere and i had a spare USB charger cable from somewhere (you just get so much stuff that you don't use, well, at some point you find a use for it)! so i cut the end off of the mono trigger and exposed the two conductors (make sure you know which one is the center (tip) conductor as that needs to be the one with power. i cut off one end of the USB charger cable, determined which one was power and spliced the two sets of cable wires together and wrapped them in electrical tape. i tested it with an ohm meter to make sure there were no shorts, then i connected it to a USB wall charger to check the voltage on the trigger end and it was fine. i connected it to one of my 2 USB ports on my 105, connected the trigger to my UPA-200 trigger in and turned on the Oppo 105, BAM, the UPA-200 was triggered on! DONE & DONE! it's not the prettiest thing, but,no one can see it and it works and it didn't cost me a dime! here is a picture of it, like i said, it's not pretty, but works like a charm! Attachment Deletedhope this helps!

I found a 4.5V 100mA wall-wart that wasn't being used. I cut up one of my trigger cables and hooked it up to the wall-wart. It seems to trigger the UPA-2 just fine. The only hitch I ran into was that the Oppo doesn't seem to draw enough juice to switch the power strip so I had to use my TV as the switch. Thanks, everyone, for your help.
