I picked up an amp today that has the old-style barrier strip for speaker-wires with screws. All my current wires have either banana plugs or spade lugs too wide for the barrier strip.
As I see it, options include:
1. Stick a banana plug under the screw & tighten it lightly 2. Cut off a banana plug & crimp on a narrow spade terminal 3. Make a new set of bare wires and just use them "necked"
I'm currently leaning toward option 3, but I'd rather not butcher nice wires with bananas already on them.
Your opinion is appreciated...

#4) go buy some cheap wire to use for the very temporary amount of time the " new" gear will be in the house. I have such a roll that I got on sale for cheap. I'll send it to you if you like. I couldn't resist the funny remark my friend.

Bare wire or spade lugs, your choice. And make sure you don't try to force too large a gauge into the barrier strip or you might crack it.

Step 1...get a chainsaw.
Step 2...cut off pesky outdated outputs.
Step 3...connect new fangled outputs.
Step 4...redo exterior finish so it looks good and manly (liberal dose of duct tape)
Step 5...connect modern banners or spades.

The old reliable method was bare wire and solder the tips to stop the spread and fraying.
Cheers Gary

Boom, I have run into this connecting wire to the terminal strips on the crossovers of my old Klipsch speakers. If you use heavy gauge wire, the crimp on spade terminals that fit that wire gauge are too wide to fit into the terminal strips. So, my solution was to use a pair of wire cutters and clip one of the spades off the terminal. That way the remaining spade fits securely under the screw on the terminal block and with the other spade removed, fits into the required width. Here's a picture: Cheers! Chuck PS: Mark's way is more fun!

That's a very interesting solution. I might have to get some myself! Thanks, Chuck

For the time being, I'll go with bare 12-ga. wire. Simple, cheap, and if I decide not to keep the amp, no extra cost from my pocket...
If I do, however opt to keep the amp, then maybe some Monoprice or Bluejeans with spade terminals (I don't think that the BJ cables have narrow enough spades to fit the terminal strip). I'd like either nickel or rhodium plate rather than gold to minimize galvanic corrosion, and BJ offers only gold plate (another strike against them). So far as I can tell, the barrier strip is nickel-plated steel, but I'm guessing. Typical 1980's stuff...
Thanks for the feedback - the banana to spade adapters look nice! If nobody makes the pre-terminated wires I want, then those are #2 on my list.
