Hi, I am new to the board. Been looking at Emotiva for a while. I am looking at the XPA100 and XPA1L monoblocks. I have PSB Stratus GOLDi speakers that are 4ohm, 90db, 15-300 watts recommended and 250 watts programmed. I have them set up to bi-wire also with Blue Jeans Cable 12awg in wall wires. I like the XPA100 binding posts as they are set up to bi-wire with 4 posts on each amp, XPA1L only has two. Currently running them with an older NAD 216THX 2 channel, it gets really warm and shuts down if I push it for a while.
I am looking for recommendations from folks based on if they have heard both amps, sound quality, build quality etc. Also looking at ATI, NAD, Outlaw, Rotel, Sim Moon Audio integrated amp.
Thanks Brian

They will sound more or less the same. I've had the 1L and the XPA-100's closely related predecessor, the UPA-1. Go for the 1L if budget is not a concern. The larger transformer and more capacitance is worth the money, imo. Btw, be sure to join the E club before purchasing. Itll save ya a couple bucks

Nice speakers!
If you listen to low levels in a small room, then I think that you would find the XPA-100s amazing.
But, because your using towers with three drivers and two crossovers it going to be a complex load for your amp. If your room is medium to large, or you like to listen to them at "Reference" levels, then I would definitely recommend the XPA-1Ls. For speakers that nice I would lean towards the fully balanced signal path of the XPA-1Ls.

The XPA-100's won;t dissapoint. It will also likely get you all the volume you want. But if it was me....I would get the XPA-1 L's and call it a day.
The XPA-100's are not a model that is right in between the XPA-1 L's and say a UPA-200. In my opinion the XPA-100 and XPA-200 series is used for somebody who wants a UPA-200 but with better build quality and overall components. So a choice between a XPA-100 and a UPA-200 would be a more reasonable comparison. Now the XPA-1 L's CAN be considered to be half an XPA-1 gen 2 because that's essentially what it is - circuit wise.

IMO all my emotiva amps have sounded the same or close in comparison, the 1L's are my favorite from them all and for me it is peace of mind having what I really wanted, if cost is of concern then by all means the XPA-100 will be great amps and for the little extra the 1L's are very reasonably priced right now.

Thanks for all the input guys. I just placed my order for the XPA1L amps, 2 of them and joined the eclub prior to ordering. Looking forward to demoing the amps. I think these will sound awesome with the PSB Goldi speakers, they have amazing soundstage and bass. Brian

It just so happens that for this month only!, as long as you own them , membership is free. The party is at your place as soon as you install the amps. Edit: for the life of me I can't figure out how they still have ANT XPA-1Ls left to sell! Just blows my mind!

Congrats on a great deal.

I went with the XPA-100's, for L&R highs on my ERT-8.3. My L/C/R are all Biamped. I did not think I needed Mono blocks but decided to get them anyway because of the open spaces on my amp stand. After hearing people say the XPA-1L ran rather warm in A/B mode I decided to go with the XPA-100's. My future intentions is to upgrade to highly sensitive speakers like the Klipsh RF-7II. I just don't think I will ever need the extra power and i think class A sound may be beyond my needs.

Congrats!
As with many of us in this hobby, there are always components I look to possibly upgrade or just change for whatever reason. My XPA-1L's have never fallen into that category. I love those little guys and believe they have a home for some time to come.

Received the XPA1l's. Nice looking product and heavy.
Buzzing in speaker from one amp, other dead quiet.
Serial numbers are way apart, buzzing amp is 0360's and quiet amp is in the 0800's, can't remember exactly.
Contacted emotiva, they told me to swap speaker wires, buzzing still in other speaker. I swapped power cords, buzzing still. Hooked up to power conditioer and straight from non conditioned outlet, buzzing in both cases. Also removed inputs from preamp to check, buzzing still.
Bad amp?
No word back from Grayson after I tried all the above tests. Hope to hear from him Monday.

That is too bad, but it does sometimes happen (never happened to me yet).
If you have no news, give them a call. They will take care of you. They are really good with making things right.

LOL

Some clarification; Humm = low frequency noise, often (but not always) a ground loop issue. Can also be caused by overlapping power cables, interconnects and/or speaker cables. Buzz = mid frequency noise, often (but not always) induced by EMI, EMF or RFI from an external source, grinder, welder, light dimmer etc. Can be caused by poor shielding on interconnects. Hiss = high frequency noise, often (but not always) internally generated by the source, pre map or power amp. Can be cumulative, with a little bit of hiss coming from each component in the chain.
I noted that you swapped power amos over and the noise stayed with the same power amp. My next step would be to swap speaker cables, then interconnects, power cables and lastly physical location. I had a mono block once that made noise (buzz) when situation near the window, move it away from the window and the noise stopped. All the possible external sources need to be explored and eliminated before being 100% certain it's internal within the power amp. It's no fun sending a power amp back for service and they can't find anything wrong with it. Or getting it back with a clean bill of health only to find the noise is still there because it wasn't the amp in the first place.
Cheers Gary

It is possible that your first amp fell into the buzzing cateogry. Emotiva issued replacements for everybody with the correct version and I assume that they did away with that batch. But it may be possible that by some rare chance one slipped through. Either way, I think you need a replacement amp

Thanks Brian Bi-wiring is BS and the XPA-1L is a much better amp and a real collector/keeper. The price right now is outstanding and I'd certainly bite!
