Is there anyone here that has their mains wall mounted? All the reviews say to keep your speakers away from the walls, but shouldn't bookshelf speakers be made to be near walls?
I need to free up space in my room. I am considering the new B&W 685 s2 mounted on a speaker mount.

In general, mounting speakers against the wall is believed to reduce their performance. Having said that, my center and surround channels speakers are all mounted on the wall!

This is an issue when the front baffle plane lines up with a bookself etc or a speaker's baffle is in line with say a wall where the speaker is flush to the wall. If mounted away from the wall and not rear ported it's not an issue. I'm sure those speakers are nice but you can do a LOT BETTER via ID and quasi DIY outfits. Check these speakers out. www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/SRM2/srm2.htmlwww.vaporsound.com/speakers/breeze/www.selahaudio.com/lineup/#/anniversario/www.selahaudio.com/lineup/#/verita/Salk Sound should also have some nice speakers of similar design. IMHO ALLof those designs will best the B&W 685 s2 you're looking at! PS don't buy into the brand name thing as these are truly BETTER DESIGNS with BETTER PERFORMANCE than those mass production B&Ws

I'd take a hard look at this speaker as I don't think it's possible to do better for the money. www.selahaudio.com/lineup/#/anniversario/He's not using the Raal but that's a great German ribbon tweet (Expolinear) and it's the same one Bob of CSS is selling but with the square flange. I'd take a look at the same design in a D'Appolito MTM also. Vapor has a D'Appolito Raal design that's also time aligned called the Stiff Breeze. CSS has a D'Appolito using the Expolinear tweet that's about a third less than Stiff Breeze. Though I haven't personally heard it, I'm certain those speakers would be very hard to beat and certainly would best those B&Ws. Heck all of these designs would IMHO. PS time alignment and Raal is worth the extra $$$ IMHO

None of these choices are designed for wall mounting so they can still sound like crap against a wall.

I think he decided against a wall speaker but thanks for sharing as those look like great speakers for such an application.

Now there is a brand name loudspeaker maker I would purchase vs. DIY or custom DIY guru sourced prefab.
