How does one rip AUDIO blu-rays? Are these the same as SACDs? One would use a ripper with a video pass-through!

So I was trying to start up MakeMkv in my Htpc but I got a download message, and the version I had was outdate..I tried to update, but I a need keycode? I don't recall having a keycode, or password for it. Should I reload the whole thing again? Of course I would need to uninstall it first. Thanks Dan Go here to get the new key. It is good until the end of November, then you have to return to that page to get the new key. This is MakeMKVs official forums and that is where the developer posts the new temporary keys for the beta users. linkJust copy the key and then paste it into Help / Register.

I have always used ANYDVDHD and just ripped the BR to its native format. I want it to be the same full fidelity as the original disc. I also don't edit out any trailers , adverts etc.... Im just too lazy and storage is cheap.... MakeMKV is lossless from the Blu_ray disc. While storage is cheap, I'm too lazy to sit through trailer of movies and I hate the advertisements. So free software that gets me 1:1 copies and without trailers and advertisements is my choice. Plus if I ever want trailers, my media player will stream them from the web if I choose to do so.

I appreciate that... To further explain my laziness ANYDVDHD is fully capable of stripping out trailers , adverts , secondary audio etc.... I'm just to lazy to bother with it. This of course does not mean I set through trailers and unwanted adverts ... I just skip them with my remote... Everyone has there own preference... to each their own..... There is of course, no right or wrong answer here....

This of course does not mean I set through trailers and unwanted adverts ... I just skip them with my remote... Everyone has there own preference... to each their own..... There is of course, no right or wrong answer here....I used AnyDVD for a while. Just thought it was worth mentioning that two clicks before ripping a movie can save others some ripping/processing time, some time skipping over the previews and advertisements while making more clicks on the remote to do so. If you don't mind it, that's great! Other may want to avoid it. One of the reasons I began ripping my collection is the time I wasted popping in discs to show off a 5 minute scene and having to "skip" through all the previews and advertisements. Some discs lets you skip the previews if you viewed it before, some make you skip each track and others force you to fast forward each track... it's a pain. With my library ripped, it's a couple clicks and I'm at my scene without having to get out of my chair. It should also be mentioned that if trailers or advertising is something someone wants, then AnyDVD (Or DVDFab) is the way to go. With MakeMKV, you don't have that option unless you are able to figure out what each chapter is. DVDFab, and I believe AnyDVD, allow you to preview a chapter (or movie, file) before ripping. So it is very easy to figure out what you are about to rip. It's not so easy with MakeMKV. But what is easy about MakeMKV is you can set the program to only display files great than X amount of seconds. So advertisements, trailers... are never an option to rip. I have my MakeMKV software setup to only display files longer than 75 minutes. Which normally means I have one file and all the audio and subtitle tracks of THAT file listed. Make my selections, one click later and I can stream my movie. So again, if you want trailers or advertisements with your movie, I suggest DVDFab or AnyDVD.

DVDFab can easily strip out trailers and adverts.

You can use a combination of DVD Audio Extractor and Slysoft AnyDVD HD. There may be other methods, but I have successfully used both of these tools.

Well. It looks like it will be a little bit longer before I add the new disk array. Three of the 5 drives ended up being defective. At first I thought they might not work with my 2-disk enclosures but when they didn't work in the Mobius, I knew they were defective. The drives in question are Hitachi 4TB NAS drives with serial numbers starting with PGC88 from July 2014. The other two drives that were not part of this lot work fine. I get transfers of 80MB/s to 120MB/s in RAID 0 with the two drives installed.

I have DVDFab (lifetime) but apparently they somewhat recently ran into legal problems. I don't have their BluRay product.
I saw recently that Xbox One just added the capability of streaming content from a DLNA server and also streaming MKV content either from an attached USB device or from a server.
So... now I'm much more interested in seeing what other people do wrt ripping disks (DVD or BluRay). I'm curious where other people see companies/products like DVDFab, AnyDVD and HandBrake fit into this space. For me, I want 2 different outcomes.
1. Lossless rips to have great quality in my house. 2. Compressed rips to enable my travel schedule. I watch a lot of movies from a tablet when I fly.
Thoughts?

Makemkv for rips and handbrake to compress for tablets/phones. They both just work! This. Although I have ran across several movies that MKV was unable to rip, for whatever reason. With some DVDs I have, it will rip them, but the resulting vdio looks like garbage...not sure what is up with that. Oh well, it's free software so it's difficult to complain when it does so much, so very well.

AnyDVD and Handbrake. I use both 720 and 1080 depending on source. 720 is fine for TV show series. 1080 for archived quality!

I have DVDFab (lifetime) but apparently they somewhat recently ran into legal problems. I don't have their BluRay product. I have the same lifetime deal with DVDFab. I don't have the BluRay option either, but I did upgrade to the HD decryption package back when it was a toss-up between HDDvd and BluRay. It works for either, and still works for ~99% of modern BR disks. For compression I've been using RipBot264 which gives you the option of ripping to MP4, MKV or AVCHD (M2TS). AVCHD works perfectly and gives high quality copies with 5.1 Dolby, when I use the MKV option the video is fine but the audio is limited to 2ch... File sizes (AVCHD) usually wind up in the 4-8Gb range @ 1080p/5.1 which isn't too bad considering the quality. I'll give MakeMKV a try, but I'll probably just stick with whats been working for now. Thanks Folks, Dave

Any of you guys who uses the pay version of Makemkv have any issues? The whole looking for a key thing is a little frustrating just for the sake of being able to rip for free.
At the moment I'm getting some errors trying to rip Captain America Winter Soldier, anyone else have experience similar with the free version?
Thanks
DJOel
