XPA-5 $999 VS XPA-7 $1599 or I could go the XPA-3 and let the 5007 power the rears and surrounds. unsure of which one to buy. I have a 7 ch Marantz Reciever (SR-5007) with pre outs. Paradigms Studio - 60s- fronts Paradigm Studio - CC 490 V.5 -Center Polk - polk fxi a4 - 2 Sides and 2 rear. SVS - svs pb12-nsd - Sub
might also upgrade the side rears and centers to Paradigms Studio - 60s- but unsure if I will yet. and maybe be another svs pb12-nsd sub soon
What would be the first thing to upgrade. Another sub? 4 Surrounds/rears, or Ext. Amp?
I am in Australia so shipping is a big factor to consider buying hese amps.

I want a single chassis and that's one of the reasons I'd choose the XPA-7, but that big power supply and 500+ Watts per channel while listing to (stereo) music takes it over the top. I vote XPA-7. (Oh, can't ship the XPA-7 internationally ... nevermind).

You might think about the XPA-200 XPA-5 combo. But you have a lot going on. Can you elaborate why you are looking to make each of these changes?

Like it or not the XPA-3,5, and 7 weigh a ton! They are ALL good choices. Really depends on how much you want to spend. The cons are exactly what you expect. (Less amp channels the less you spend).

If it was me, and I was paying for shipping to Australia, I would go with XPA-3 for the fronts, and a UPA-500 for the rears. I also like Ansats idea too.

i vote for xpa-3 for LCR channel. that's the most important area. leave the other speakers for marrantz. it'd be a waste if that receiver don't power anything.

I think you can eliminate the XPA-7 from your short list, unless im mistaken,,,,,it doesn't ship out of the US. Or did I miss something.
But if it did, shipping cost would send me to the XPA-7. One box, one shipment, one fine amp,,,,,,done!!!!!!

Haven't actually heard a ext. amp so not sure if it would be worth the upgrade. usually listen to movies and music at a good volume. My 5007 is rated at 100X7 but its probably really around 60x7 and I've read that my fronts like some power to shine. I could see the benefits just adding a 3 or 2 channel ext. amp and leaving the 5007 to power the rears. As is, the Marantz, SR5007, is more than enough to drive our room to loud, satisfying listening levels to well past my comfortable listening levels.(-7 setting on the receiver for movies and -10 music) I like the idea of having 7 channels tho. However, I suppose the front L/R speakers are doing a fair amount of the work in movies (aside from the dialogue), and they obviously do all the work for music (along with the sub). I suppose it makes sense to stick to a 2-channel amp.adding a high-quality amplifier to those two channels should takes a lot of load off of the receiver and lets it do a much better job with the remaining channels. I've read a few people claim the Emotivas are less warm-sounding than some amps such as the Outlaws or Marantz too. Considering how neutral my Studio60's already are, I don't want to go any further in that direction or I think they'd be harsh and fatiguing. so maybe something like the Marantz MM7025 ( only $800), and should make a good improvement in my system? It has 140 watts per channel, and with that on the front 2 channels and it looks similar to the 5007. A second sub woofer would be a good Idea to help smooth out the bass At the moment I am just getting ideas and will slowly upgrade bit by bit down the track. room treatments will be last as I rent and will leave that till I buy a house in a few years or so

Given this - My thought would be speakers first. (most bang for the buck) Then amps (I don't think I would recommend having some speakers hooked up to the Marantz and some an outboard amp) and save the sub for around the time where you are thinking about room treatments.

Room treatments should absolutely not be last. A few years for a $70 panel that you can take with you at any time when you move house? They give you serious benefit even if you do a half baked job of it. I just hung a panel behind my couch. One panel. And the difference was obvious. More will give you more benefit but don't discount it. It isn't complicated. I just set it against the wall on a shelf. www.atsacoustics.com/item--ATS-Acoustic-Panel-24-x-48-x-2--1001.htmlI would say it gave me as much or more benefit than any electronic upgrade I've done. If funds are an issue, I would try to be buy an XPA-5 gen 1 used and couple that with an old used UPA-2 (not a UPA-200). The gain stages will be matched at 32 db and should function just fine.

If you use a reshipper company as www.shopusa.com , you can get the XPA-7 to aussie land. But Emotiva does not ship XPR or XPA-7 internationell.

Why do you need to upgrade anything? What's the problem with your current setup? What problem are you trying to solve?

I would go with the XPA-3,and let the Marantz drive the rest. Sold allot of XPA-3s, and it works we'll. Or as was recommended, the XPA-3 and UPA-500 for the rest.

Love the Studio 60's. Used to own some. I'd go with vcautokid's advice.
