Hey guys just want to get an answer to this question. I have done my research online and I can't seem to find a definitive answer as to what size the transformer is in the LPA-1. The description over at EmoVault.org indicates it has a 1200VA transformer but on a few forums others have mentioned it is an 800-850VA transformer. The manual says it has a 1200VA transformer on page 9 but does not mention it in the specifications. I just want some clarification on this with some form of proof to indicate what size it truly is for my own curiosity.
I have owned a couple of Emo amps in the past (XPA-3 and XPA-5) and just purchased an LPA-1 that will be mated up to some Focal Chorus 836V towers, CC800VW (prestige)centre and SR700 surrounds. Just sold off my Paradigm Studio 60V5 set to try these out. I was using a Rotel RMB 1095 but did not feel I needed that beast of an amp in my 19Lx11Wx8H dedicated room. It is smaller and felt the LPA-1 would provide some good synergy for the components. I also have an Emo Ultra Sub 12. Love the sealed design and is a good sub for the room. Nice to see others have had good experiences between Focal and Emo amps and hope I do too.
I have owned several nice high powered amplifiers from other brands and have now come back to Emotiva and happy to do so. Here is what I have owned in the past in order from the very beginning to now. I am 30 years old and have been lucky enough to enjoy or not enjoy these amps so far.
1) Acurus 100x3 and A150. My first venture into separate amps. Paired with Paradigm Monitor 11v5 set.
2) Emotiva XPA-3. My first Emo amp with Monitor Audio RX 6 set.
3) Emotiva XPA-5. Should have kept this.
4) Sunfire Cinema Grand 200x5. A little too hissy and noisy compared to my other previous amps owned. Nice amp though.
5) NAD T975. A beast of an amp but ran a little to warm for my liking. Not a lot of airflow in the room even though I have an air exchanger but after awhile it just became annoying that along with the other electronics got the room a little warmer than I cared for. I know it is part of the design having a higher bias in class A but was not for me at the time.
6) Parasound HCA 1500a. Nice two channel amp.
7) Anthem PVA-5. Should have kept this. Silent. Runs cool. Powered my Paradigm Studio v5 at the time and did a good job. No fuss straight forward amp.
8) Rotel RMB 1095. Another beast of an amp. Powerful. A little on the noisier side of things compared to my Anthem and XPA3/5. Nice warm powerful sound.
9) Emotiva LPA-1. Up there in weight with some of the larger amps I have owned. Runs very cool. Straight forward no frills amp. Quiet similar to my Anthem. No issues I can see yet. Just have it paired up with some Energy RC 70 set that are holding me over until my Focal arrive. I like that it has a gain of 29db. I use an Anthem MRX 500 as a processor with a decent preamp. Nice to be back in the Emotiva family and compared to other I have owned I will be sticking with Emotiva for the forseeable future. Most likely a Gen2 XPA 5. The LPA-1 has been impressive thus far and would be nice to know that it does have a 1200VA transformer. Would probably explain why is has solid 4 ohm performance (on paper as the amp is rated kind of goofy) compared to the UPA 5/7. Was there ever a bench test of the LPA-1?
