Best wishes on your fathers recovery. I had to deal with my mother in law being confined to a wheel chair about 15 years ago and I found a few tricks that helped make the house a bit more wheelchair friendly. There are lots of helpful hints on line just search "wheel chair access" and they should pop up. Some of the simple things I did were to built a ramp out of treated pine to the front door and made sure the slope wasn't too steep so she could make it up with a little help from my father in law. I also reversed the screen and front doors on their hinges so that they opened in the right direction to facilitate wheel chair access. I also swapped the bathroom door to a slider in lieu of a hinged door which made an easier turn around for the toilet. Plus a hanging handle from the ceiling joist to help her out of the wheel chair. We also rearranged the lounge room so that she could sit in the wheel chair in her favourite position. Nothing major just a whole lot of little things that pop up when you are moving around the house.
Cheers Gary
