Can anyone make a recommendation for a reasonably priced unit for this? I see several for monoprice, ebay and the likes. I would like to go with something nicer than these units, but avoid the few esoteric ones I have come across.

They should all work the same, so I'd say go for it. You really shouldn't have to pay more than about $20 or $30 for one of these.

I am needing to go from Toslink out of a media player to my DAC which is only Coax.
I did just find that Gefen and Tributaries make ones for a decent price.

Monoprice. $12, free shipping. I was hesitant of Monoprice too, but everything of theirs I've tried, works great. MIDIMan was the only name brand manufacturer I could find for this type of product, but they no longer produce them.

I would like to go with something nicer than these units, but avoid the few esoteric ones I have come across. hey J, can't you just put the converter behind your gear and come out with the cable? it's really small. or do you just want to spend more money for something showy that people can see? i suspect they will all work the same (for the most part). just curious as to why you don't want to use the smaller monoprice/ebay units? mind you, i respect what you want, i'm just curious to know why, if you don't mind. |

I really don't care if it is visible or not. My goal was to pick one that worked and I was a little skeptical of some of the budget options, but didn't want to spend and arm and a let. I actually picked up a Gefen unit as there stuff typically works pretty well and it didn't break the bank. I haven't had a chance to hook it up yet so no official opinions of it yet. |
