I came home Friday to find my needle on my Acoustic Research turntable is now MIA.
So...
I was curious what suggestions you guys have for a new cartridge in the $100 range.

There's always someone talking about the Ortofon 2 M Red Ive never heard it but I've read good reviews. Sorry I couldn't be more help. www.needledoctor.com/Ortofon-2M-Red-Phono-Cartridge?sc=2&category=378Edit: I just spent 30 minutes searching for a bad word , review, or opinion of the Red, can't find one!

Both the Ortofon 2 M Red and Shure M97XE have good specs and are within the recommended Tracking force and Cartridge weight for the Acoustic Research turntable. I can't see a bad move on either. This is the cart I would like to get for my new Emotive Turntable if it works good with it, but it is a few dollars more. www.needledoctor.com/Audio-Technica-440MLa-Cartridge?sc=2&category=363

I own the Ortofon red 2m and am very happy with it. Has good dynamic range, is not a laid back type of cartridge. Very good for the price. Matt

I second the Ortofon 2M red. Bang for,the buck, about as good as you can do for 100. The Blue is very nice at about 200.

The Shure V15-iii, and SME-3 tonearm, were the premium mates for the AR turntable. The M97XE was the successor to the V15, when Shure had to discontinue the V15; being unable to source titanium tubing for it's needle. I have a Shure M97XE, and am very happy with it. You can spend a lot more money for a cartridge, but you won't hear any improvement. Sincerely /b

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm probably going to go with either the Ortofon 2M red or the Shure M97XE!

I would highly recommend a Nagaoka cart. like the mp-100 or so. Check the reviews, not as cold or harsh sounding as the lower end Ort's can be.
