Hello! Recently I purchased two XPA-1L's and I'm thinking of upgrading my current preamp for an XSP-1 G2 and as such I'd like the overall look to match the G2 setup. On the accessories page I see black trim is available for 1.5, 3 and 4 RU units, what about 2RU? Is this available or simply out of stock?

You could just go down to the local hardware store and grab some flat black paint and paint them up, I did that to my LPA-1 trim and it looks great.

I tried to order black trim for an ERC-2 a couple of months ago and noticed it was not on the web site. I figured since they are going to Gen2 they would not be selling any more black trim. I painted the trim black.

Spray paint works fine, or you can take them to any auto body shop & ask to have them powder coated - more durable... You could also take them to a metals shop and have them anodized. In fact, I'm thinking of having my XSP-1 and XPA-1L faceplates anodized in silver...

Thanks George, I've been waiting on these for my ERC's. Just been busy at work the past couple of weeks and these must've slipped by me.

I may be wrong about this, so let me know if I am. I think the Emotiva trim is already anodized. Black anodized in the case of the Gen II trim and clear anodized in the case of Gen I trim. I don't think it's possible to re-anodize aluminum. If so, paint or powder coat would be the only option. BTW I painted my XDA-2 trim satin black in the past. Works fine. These are not parts that should be getting much wear and tear.

I think you're right, ocezam - Once anodized, the surface is chemically bound to the color. The only options would be to either paint over or to have the parts sand-blasted to remove the existing anodized layer and then re-aondize them.

Yep love powder coating. Nothing better for an enduring great finish. I think better than paint alone, and if you can, or have connections, the best way. In a pinch though paint works. Your prep is everything, and even light coats of paint.

I'm with vcautokid on this one - powder coating WORKS (even over anodizing), and provides a clean, durable finish!

I powder coat lots of motorcycle parts when I'm doing a restoration, or more correctly a resto-mod. Much more durable than paint. But without some connections in the industry to bring the price of powder down, I can't see spending the money on Emotiva trim. Heck I always have a can or two of black spray paint getting old in the garage. Costs basically nothing to spray the trim, and I haven't scratched one yet. Peace
