Hello fellow audio and videophiles,
My XPA-5 will arrive this Friday. I am looking for any type of friendly advice here that may improve my first time setup and anything else down the line.
My Setup is as follows: Paradigm Signature S6 Fronts Paradigm Signature C3 Center Mirage Bookshelf Rear Speakers REL R505 Subwoofer Pioneer Elite SC-07 Receiver
My plan is to power all 5 speakers with the Amp. Then Bi-AMP the Paradigm Fronts with the Pioneer Elite Receiver. (Not sure if this is possible)
Eventually, I would want to get a XPA-2 just for the Bi-Amp but not sure if it would be worth the cost involved.
The system is used for both Music and Movies.
Thank You

Welcome to the lounge!
Congrats on a fantastic amp. The XPA-5 will make those fine Paradigms really sing.
As for biamping, are you sure it's worth the hassle? If you do proceed, consider biamping the front L/R with the XPA-5 and running the rears with the receiver.
Before deciding that though, just run the XPA-5 for all 5 channels and see what you think.

Do not bi-amp with your receiver, let the XPA-5 work alone.
Sit down, relax and enjoy!

Do what hemster said. Use the XPA-5 for the fronts in whatever manner you choose.

I own both the XPA 2 and 5. I've experimented with bi-amping, it made no difference to me. I can't hear a difference between the 2 and the 5. I can push the speakers a but more with the XPA 2 but thats about it.

Not worth the effort. Enjoy the XPA5 and use the receiver for your rear surrounds, if you are going to 7.1. The XPA5 has more than enough power.

I agree with hemster. If anything, bi-amp with the XPA-5 and let the receiver handle the surrounds. The XPA-5 is a better amp than that in the Elite. If you bi-amp with it, the sound will only be as good as the weakest link which in this case would be the Pioneer. Let those fronts fully enjoy the power from the XPA. Better to use those Pioneer channels in the rear if you're set on bi-amping.

Lift the XPA-5 with your legs, not your back Passive Bi-amping is, very likely, not going to make any difference - unless you find the XPA-5 running out of power in your application.

While I agree with what the others have said about not being able to hear a difference, it's a relatively cheap experiment to determine yourself. Tony

Experimenting has always been a favorite part of mine in this hobby of ours, so you should try bi-amping just to find out if any, the differences that you may experience. Personally I've not heard any difference in my experiences and think you'll be most satisfied with the XPA-5 powering all five of your speakers. Do come back and let us know what if any differences you've heard, and congrats on your new toy!

Thank you everyone for the great advice.
I will use the XPA-5 to power all 3 of my Paradigms, including Bi-Amping the fronts, as most of you have suggested here. I will use the receiver just for the Rears.
Ohhh, I can't wait. Only 3 days left.
Thank You all.

Thought I'd chime in and agree with using the receiver for the surrounds. I use the XPA-5 for the front five and my "old" receiver amp inputs for the surround backs and bedroom stereo. XPA-5 sounds beautiful for two-channel listening as well as surround.
Enjoy your XPA-5!

It's your first post, Welcome to the lounge, it's look like you appreciate your Emo toys and being yourself an Emo junkie? Cool! BTW what do you think about the comparison between the XMC-1 XPA-5 combo and the Marantz sr-9600 avr? Your thoughts should be very interesting because the sr-9600 is not a piece of s##t .

BTW what do you think about the comparison between the XMC-1 XPA-5 combo and the Marantz sr-9600 avr? Your thoughts should be very interesting because the sr-9600 is not a piece of s##t . Thanks for the welcome! I pre-ordered the SR-9600 when it came out at CES 2005(?) and have loved it ever since. Wonderful sound and power, certainly for a receiver, their latest flagship standalone multi-channel amp doesn't have as much power (watts/distortion specs). Last I looked anyway, since I checked them out before Emotiva. To my ears, the XPA-5 immediately had a "similar" sound to the Marantz, not to go into details, a good thing and a testament to the quality of the 9600. Big difference was power, dynamics, more openess, all the things you'd expect from a bigger badder standalone high end amp. Using the Marantz as a preamp, sounded fantastic. An audiophile friend with a full Naim stereo setup (amazing sounding sytem) who had turned me on to Emotiva was wowed and compared its sound to some $$$$$ other amps. I decided to complete the system upgrade with the XMC-1, among other things to take advantage of the HD Blu-ray codecs and such without having to use 7.1 analog in all the time. Wow. A whole other level of detail, imaging, dynamics, the lot. What a fantastic combo. So the 9600 is still and will always be a wonderful sounding piece IMHO, I'll never sell it. The Emotiva gear kicks it up a few notches for sure, but the Marantz is still a joy to listen to.

You will enjoy that amp as for Bi-Amping your speaker? It's a choice and yours alone. But I agree with the others in here your speakers are from a very good company and very well built good crossovers in them run the XPA 5 both ways and see what "You" like. After all it is what this hobby is all about. The feed back you are getting from the Ole Timers are some great guys to know they will go out of their way to help in anyway they can they are loaded with great tips. Enjoy your XPA 5 one of the best amps to be had. Like Nick would say every system should have one.

Thank You, Thank You everyone.
This is such a great community. I have been shadowing for a while now, but decided to sign-up as soon as I preordered my first Emotiva Product. My plan is to expand the amplification in both my systems as time and funds allow me. I really wanted to get the XPA-7 to run all 5 speakers with the Bi-Amp. However, decided to go with the XPA-5 for now and see how it preforms. My wife is also a huge audiophile and a musician, and I did not want to put all 7 channels in one box. So I was thinking to get the 5 Channel now, and then a 2 Channel later, and if my wife wants to steal it for her Pro-Audio setup, then so be it. At which point, I'll just move on to another Emotiva amp. But ya, these Emotiva products, I can't wait to start playing with them.
Once again, Thank you all for the lovely and great feedback.

I think you are two really nice member additions to the lounge community. Thank you so very much. I will gladly share my first impressions with a few pictures. This whole week, I have been running around with excitement upgrading my RCA cables and banana plugs for the new Amp. Also picked up a regular mono cable to use as a trigger between the receiver and the Amp. Not sure If I should upgrade my speaker cables. Debating that now. I really am so excited right now. Every addition to the home theater turns me into a little kid with super excitement. I really cant explain this feeling. All my friends ask, what is so special about all this stuff, and I really just don't know how to explain it to them. But to me, it's the best passion I can have for anything. And no words can really explain it. Anyway, I am ranting off. Thank You everyone. Remo Deo
