Thank you everyone for the comments. I just signed up for Tidal. Initially I had severe difficulties with the Bluetooth connection (from Windows 8.1 Lenovo laptop with Broadcom wi-fi/bluetooth card to Yamaha YBA-11 bluetooth receiver) working side by side with Wi-fi: no sound, extreme stuttering, difficulty reconnecting. Anyways, it all seems to work now. Reboot and setting Wi-fi 'Bluetooth Collaboration' mode to 'enabled' n advanced settings seems to have helped. The catalog has enough depth to be interesting and worth the money. Although I could not find all titles I wanted to check out (e.g. just out of curiosity I wanted to listen to my past favorites e.g. Jean-Michel Jarre, KLF, and Bad Boys Blue!!!!, but they only have a few samples and/or not all albums). Perhaps that is actually a good thing... The sound quality seems to be very good, e.g. Yo-Yo Ma plays Morricone is very close to the CD I have. My quick take is that I can not tell any difference compared to the CD. Tidal quality is definitely superior to Spotify (Yo-Yo Ma sounds horribly flat and breathless on Spotify). I wonder how much it helps (i.e. not reduce the sound quality further) to have the Yamaha Bluetooth receiver, which supposedly supports some lossless Bluetooth codec. I try to stay away from Google's 'free' services as much as possible, but one has to use Chrome Web Player for Tidal. Hifi (i.e. CD) quality is not supported on other browsers. And the Windows desktop application is not at the moment available for download. The Web Player works OK, although I am not really getting any relevant recommendations based on albums I have added to my portfolio. Perhaps I am not looking hard enough. One also can not store music offline in the Web Player version. Which is a major bummer. Anyways, looks like I will very likely keep the subscription.

I'm enjoying Tidal. Despite Keith's very real caveats about costs and lossless streaming. I believe good old competition will keep cost down.
As technology moves forward there will be Hi-Rez streaming channels . Heard they already raised prices depending on which portal you
use to subscribe. . So you pays your money and makes your choices .
Last night I set up both our phones as off-line devices. iPhone 5s and 6 plus. With a kid that goes through tracks as often as bff. this is
golden. No more iTunes cards or upcharges for data usage. No need for legacy concerns with the crap she listens to. I guess they said that
about my music also So what do I know ? To me it sounds very good . despite the roar of my John Deere . Not to mention the helmet the
dr's recommend I wear 24/7 . Not sure if that's because I fall down a lot or the head banging I do at the first sign of stress. Ok. I kid.
It took seconds to d/l a track. Less then a minute for an album ..
Streaming is not only the future. It's today.

Streaming is not only the future. It's today. Thumbs up on TIDAL bub! While I do not subscribe to TIDAL at this point the day is getting closer. Within a two week time frame. I will subscribe to TIDAL based on what I have physically heard. I was more than impressed. CD quality is an end game for me. With the variety of 25,000.000 songs available one would be hard pressed to find a LOGICAL reason not too subscribe. I am a convert to TIDAL since I always like the idea of physically putting a disc in the player. After listening to the quality lossless playback from TIDAL I surrender and I am convinced, and agree that streaming is not only the future, it's today. Well said... PS nice amps!

Hi Bluemeanies. Thanks. I agree. I know a couple of guys with thousands of cd's. But as PaulMcGowan said. this morning
Technology Train MQA is coming, so too is Tidal, and then there’s the latest DAC, the brightest new invention. What wonders will we have tomorrow? Better wait, it’ll soon be a whole new world.
The pace of technology speeds by us like a freight train; we wonder when the best time to jump on board might be. Oh look! Coming ’round the bend, the exact car you were hoping to catch a ride on. Get ready to grab it! But no, in the distance appears yet another, even shinier object. You had better wait. Surely the approaching car is perfect for you.
There is no perfect, and technology will always change, the next object shinier than the last. The trick is to figure out what you want and go for the best available at the time. Waiting for something you don’t need to get better just because seems an endless, maddening loop, but one we all fall victim to. Just the other day I got wind of a new portable hard drive from Lacie called Fuel. It has WIFI built in, 1tB of storage, runs 9 hours on batteries, can stream 5 HD videos, or music streams, simultaneously, and it’s cheap: $179. I haven’t seen an object this shiny in, what… weeks? I bought it. It does what it’s advertised to do. I don’t need another hard drive, but I could not resist the idea of its cool factor. I am returning it tomorrow.
The technology train seduces you to watch it pass, filled with so many new colors and shiny objects, like a circus train. When the car carrying that which you want and need rounds the bend, extend your hand and grab hold of it without waiting for the next.

I was thinking of doing my transformers metal flake red to match my bike but found out that color was locked up and not available to the general public. I hope to have pics up soon. Of my very mundane pedestrian black transformers.

Typical gawker article. I read their sister/sub site kotaku.com a lot and it's the same over there. Clickbait title as always. Anyway, quoted from the article: "On my laptop's speakers I could not tell the difference between Rihanna belting YEAH-HEE-YA, YEAH-HEE-YA, YEAH-HEE-YA! on Tidal versus Rihanna belting YEAH-HEE-YA, YEAH-HEE-YA, YEAH-HEE-YA! on Rdio." Can't take the dude seriously after reading that BUT he has a point about the terrible interface Tidal has and personally I think the whole marketing campaign Jay Z started is awful.

I know it doesn't mean much to all of us on here since majority of us have high end systems. But what percentage do you guys think people are listening to Tidal over computer speakers, Beats headphones, or Ear Buds?

Beats Headphones aren't high res capable We are the few and far in between Nick, I'm sure we are well outnumbered by regular ear bud and HTIAB users

Nick, way off base.....go to the Computer Audiophile site, and you'll see that many cutting edge guys are all over Tidal streaming from some very high-end systems.

The gawker guy is clearly a tool. Bitchin about quality of lossless using laptop speakers LOL ?. Tidal hifi is CD quality, 25M titles, for $20 a month. Absolute steal and I am loving it...

The Tidal Desktop app is again available for PC and MAC, in beta: tidal.com/ca/downloadSeems to work OK. Looks and feels exactly the same as the Chrome Web Player version. And the sound quality seems to be the same...

Would be a great feature if Tidal was compatible with chromecast. I would totally pay for both services (tidal & Google play) if I could have the convenience of streaming to all 4 of my chromecast devices. I figure Tidal would have to pay a fee to do so.
