Thanks for this. I currently subscribe to Tidal HiFi. I wonder if this is only for new subscribers or if it applies to anyone? Might be worth it for just $15 a quarter more than I am currently paying for Tidal service alone.

Just as a reminder, Tidal now offers Military or Veterans a 40% discount, that's $12 vs. $20 for the CD quality service.

Our local Home Depot next to the handicap parking spaces has several spots designated for veterans. Very nice gesture and much appreciated! As I went into the store I thanked them!

Due to all this great talk of Tidal, I just signed up for the HiFi service with the vet's discount. So far, I'm liking what I'm hearing. Tonight, I'll integrate it at home with my Sonos device.

As a healthy Iraq vet there's NO WAY I'm using those stalls. haha... Maybe one day. Anyways, I just discovered the Tidal veterans discount which I was pretty surprised by. SO MANY subscriptions... Netflix, Spotify (work pays for that), Google Play Music (family plan), and now Tidal..... Yeesh. I need to decide whether the lossless streaming is worth it. Once I upgrade my family room setup and my desktop setup I'll decide. I'm on the fence right now.

What is everyone using to connect the service to their system? Im still pretty green at all of this but id like to try tidal out for the free trial. I mainly want to hear the difference which i feel i should be able to do with what im running. Would downloading the tidal program to my laptop and then connecting it to my preamp via hdmi be a sufficient connection? Is there a better way? Thanks for reading I use TIDAL via Roon in my primary system but I find the search is better in the TIDAL OS X and Android apps so I tend to manage my TIDAL libraries in those. Roon is nice because my TIDAL favorites and playlists elegantly coexist with the files stored on the network. I use TIDAL via Chromecast in the bedroom system. TIDAL has done a nice job with the Chromecast implementation so it displays album artwork and track info in well a well designed screen. Sound is decent but nothing special. I've not tried casting with a Chromecast Audio.

I just subscribed for the Tidal premium service free trial. I'm using it with my new Oppo Sonica DAC and IOS App. It sounds great, spacious, and full frequency. Tidal goes direct to the Oppo with control only on the iPad or iPhone.

Thanks for reading I mainly use Sonos to stream it digitally to my DAC via spdif. I have tried my HTPC out via USB to my DAC also and not noticed any night and day differences. That might change with MQA but I have not had to to critically compare yet. PC out via HDMI should work also. I do also just play Tidal sitting at my desk via a PC into Airmotiv 3b's and have listened via my tablet when sitting away from my system at other places in the house. Mark

I stream Tidal through my oppo 105 app directly through 7.1 or direct stereo outs controlled by my iPad oppo app. I also stream it through my daughters Sonos system using Sonos app on iPad. I also download albums and playlists on my phone, then set to offline, and play through tape cassette adapter in my Volvo (yes it has cassette & cd).

Do i need all of that to achieve full quality of the music they have to offer or will the dac in my preamp be sufficient?(it has to have something like that on board id assume). Thanks for all the input everyone. What do you mean by all that. All you need is a way to go from your computer or tablet to your dac or preamp's dac. Do not over think this.

Thanks for the help! im going to try it out this weekend using my pc via hdmi to my preamp. I assume it will blow my mind! I am not sure what you expect to blow your mind. To be clear, Tidal hifi can deliver CD quality music via streaming. And it can deliver MQA. If you want to stream vs. load CD's into a player, you will experience convenience of not having to load CD's...for the music they have. AND,Tidal tends to have most, but not all, of the music I personally have AND has a lot I don't have but like. So, between my own files on a NAS and what Tidal has...my CD quality collection is huge...and available via taps on my tablet or Smartphone. I LOVE that. To take advantage of the MQA files, you must play from a PC and have a system that can take advantage of the supposedly superior sound (potential). As far as playing throught your preamp...the sound will be as good as a CD played through your preamp. But, unless you have been playing low quality sources, do not expect Tidal's sound quality to blow you away. Depending on your preamp, an outboard DAC may or may not make a difference. Make sense?
