I wouldn't. Spend more and get more - Astell & Kern AKs40. 240 Gb space plus native DSD, fully Balanced output, MSQ streaming etc, etc...... ...plus you can carry it in your pocket without looking like you're 'pleased to see someone'.

I have a PONO on the way. How would you set it up I'd be hooking it up to the UMC-200, and taking it with me in the car; I, personally, wouldn't be setting it up with earbuds.

Well the important part is not to eat it all in one go. Just have a triangle or two at a time. Just some fun! Congratulations on your pono!!!

Mine's on the way too. I plan to use it as a portable player... not sure what you mean by "set it up"?

I am on the list for a similar product, Geek Wave.
I plan on using it in my car to feed to-Rez tunes to my car stereo also in my office to feed my meager office setup.
I'll also try it on my main rig for fun.
Good luck with Pono, I hope it works well for you.

I have the iBasso DX50 and use w/IEM for travel but it spends the majority of its time in the car playing hi-rez files. Love the flexibility. Hope you find the same enjoyment w/ the PONO

PONO is like Emotiva Lounge; a real class act. ...Lots of love and no animosity. ...It sounds highly resolutely good, from one set of ears owns perspective. Like Neil Young; directly from the heart, without prejudice. ...All towards a better world, free of it all.

Does Pono have a digital out? If it does, and I am using it at home, I would plug it into a DAC and compare that with the sound of the unit playing from the rca outs. If all you have is a headphone jack out, then you have to go through the Pono's headphone amp, which is likely not stellar. That would be sad. I would prioritize getting the signal thus" 1st, digital out to a DAC, second, rca out to a preamp, and third headphone jack to the preamp or powered speakers. I would be less and less excited with each choice down the line.

Early feedback from the first delivered Kickstarter units is that both outputs sound outstanding thanks to the Ayre designed electronics and the headphone amp is superior to the Dragonfly, and to other DAPs like the Filo or headphone outputs from iPhones and Samsung phones. But these are just other user's opinions so everyone will have a different opinion. My CSNY signature model should arrive in another couple of weeks and I can't wait to try it.

Waiting for my Dave Matthews signature edition too. I am really excited about this new toy. It is funny one poster mentioned a $2500 player as an alternative. I believe PONO will have a superior DAC chip, plus it comes with 128 GB of storage and hi quality electronics from Ayre. I have heard other Ayre products and they are quite nice. I have never heard the AK240 but don't thinkk it would be worth the additional price IMO. Looking forward to finding out what DMB albums come with the player...

Pono has been rather quiet about not making the october release of the players and the music store other than to say it (the player) will be released for general sales next year. is there any reason the store didn't open up to sell all that music that they were supposed to have. did they explain what the hold up is on making the players and the release of the digital music? just wondering how all the people who put their money up are feeling about the company missing it's first mark.
if anyone has any real light to shine on this, please post it. i can't find anything for the most part on either subject. i am not interested in the player, i am however, interested in the digital music.
