I just received a new Fusion 8100, everything seems to work but when the thing warms up with moderate/high volume it radiates a smell that fills the room.
Just wondering if anyone else experienced this?
For now I'm running 3.1 with new Polk Tsx220 fronts w/ matching center and a new MartinLogan sub. Brand new 12ga. oxygen free copper speaker wire (about 10ft per speaker / banana plugs) and a new 8ft. MediaBridge sub cable.
I'm not sure if this is just factory burn off or something melting that could lead to premature failure.

Don't have this particular component, but when we initially got our XPA-1 G2's in it was the same thing. Bad enough you could barely stay in the room, but it did dissipate after a few days.

Ah, new amp smell....I haven't smelled it in years. Congrats on the new gear. The smell will go away, and is 100% normal. There are several theories as to what causes the "new amp smell", not sure what is the truth. Either way, it's nothing to worry about.

Have smelled that on a few electronic components - always has gone away.

What was Emotiva's response? Did you contact them? They replied to my email... their exact words: " I am not sure the reason for the smell. Are you sure a cat or something didn't pee in it? I know this sound a little odd but we have experienced that issue before with returned equipment. We haven't experienced any odd smells from the Fusion before. Sorry don't know the answer to this one." We don't even have a cat!

AYFKM? I don't believe it. I'd call Big Dan with that one.. I think I'll do that, mainly for another reason, when I purchased this thing from Amazon, it said the warranty was 5 years, come to find out it's only 3 years. The old bait and switch. After telling them about this, now they changed it on the Amazon site to 3. Their exact words: "I am so sorry but the warranty is only 3 years. I am having our marketing team correct the Amazon warranty information." I think they should honor that 5 year as that is what it said when I purchased it. I have screenshots and printouts. And thanks to all for your answers, makes me feel a little better about that smell. J.

Amazon has typos on a regular basis for products they carry. I normally double check things that are important to me, since most Amazon pages are copy and pasted bits of other pages. The warranty terms are here: emotiva.com/help/faqs/warranty-serviceYou'll probably get further by being polite about it. Just my advice.

If it advertised 5 year warranty it should be a five year warranty. Cat pee lol, that is freaking hilarious. My cat has done some damage, but he would be BBQ if that ever happened.

I agree that they should honor 5 years if that's what Amazon stated.... But bait and switch? That seems a little dramatic.
No intent to deceive...
Edit: I was not implying that he WAS being impolite. Merely suggesting that when going about asking for the 5 year warranty be honored, asking politely rather than demanding it will probably be more productive.
Most customer service I've dealt with is much more cooperative if you're firm but professional. Calling up and saying "you lied to me and pulled a bait and switch!" is probably going to be less productive.

Never intended nor do I intend to be impolite, I was a little irked by their response and unwillingness to honor what they advertised. I take back and regret the insensitive bait and switch comment. I've never dealt with Emotiva so I have no idea about their business ethics. But believe me some companies to pull that cr@p, Samsung did it on some of their SSD's... I sent them back and got a refund.
I like the looks of the higher end Emotiva products and this receiver is just to get my foot in the door until I can afford higher end gear.

I think you should be a little irked. I don't blame you one bit. Most of us are pretty fond of Emotiva's customer service - so if it's something that's important to you - you should escalate the issue. You probably won't need the extra 2 years - but Amazon stated 5 years. I think Emotiva normally takes good care of their customers when they're in a frustrating situation.

I've had all manner of new Emo gear and none of it has ever "smelled" from first power up till now. Unless of course something fails and burns out, then you would expect some smell, but under normal use I've never had any smell that I recall even noticing never mind anything enough to write here about.
For that matter any other brands of audio gear. A new bbq might smell a bit or a room heater, but not audio gear. Maybe with one exception, tube amps that have been stored for a long period and are dusty, thipus when the tubes get hot they can burn up the dust.

Some of the Emotiva amps that I've had smelled some the first couple times they warmed up. Some more than others (more electronic guts, more smell).
Nothing really noticeable after that, however.
I wouldn't say its anything specific to Emotiva though. I always figured it was some heat sink compound or flux or something.

If that is really the answer someone gave you, they need to be reprimanded big time!! That is totally unprofessional and downright stupid to say something like that in an email to a customer.........
