£500 million ($800 million) is a whole lot of money to turn down.. a w-h-o-l-e ...l-o-t, even for Plant. I realize he's not starving but sometimes I wonder what makes him tick. Why wasn't it "the right thing to do"? He didn't specify other than to say he wants to "move forward". Hope it wasn't his ego. He's 66 and no amount of moving forward will bring him the fame that reuniting the band would. Ditto for the money (although clearly he doesn't care for that). He looks like he's 106.... Hard life :)Try doing what he did and see if you would looked as good

As an aside, Plant is playing at Bonnaroo this June. (Last time I went to Bonnaroo I saw Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, ZZ Top, Billy Idol, Dwight Yokam, etc., etc., Bonnaroo is about hour from Emo's HQ. It's in Manchester, TN and it is camping and music for four days. It's a mega event, and one of the best music festivals in the US right now.) For all you Zep fans, here's a chance to see Robert Plant anyway. Bonzo "All friggin' festivals in the USA. Festivals are fine, but that's all he seems to play anymore and it gets annoying." Yeah, but the best thing about festivals is the price! It's makes an "unaffordable to see artist", affordable. I saw all the artists listed above plus the entire 4 days worth of great music for 275.00. I don't know what Plant would charge in a venue where he was the headliner, but to put it in perspective, McCartney came to Nashville the following year, and tickets were $450-$1,100.....and that was just for him. I would have never paid 1k+ for tickets for me and my daughter to see him.

I would have never paid 1k+ for tickets for me and my daughter to see him. Well I don't think McCartney tickets face value were that much. Those sound like Ticket Broker figures to me. But I could be wrong of course. If he was charging that face value than he's gone over the top. The entire O2 show in 1997, which included many bands but was headlined by Led Zeppelin, tickets were "only" $150. The last 3 times I saw Plant I want to say that depending on the seats, tickets ranged from about $65 to $95. Maybe even more like $55 to $85. We see headliner bands all the time at our local place for $35 in the lawn (still great seats at The Fraze Pavilion), and Plant wouldn't charge much more. Like I said, festivals are fine, and can be tons of fun, but when bands only play the festivals it makes it tough for several reasons. Just to name a few, festivals are usually 3 or 4 day things which makes them a major event. You most likely won't just drive to the show and then go home. Some festivals don't even sell 1 day tickets. Some don't actually release the daily band schedule until you are there, so it's hard to even plan a 1 day trip in advance because you don't know which day to go. Most involve camping etc with public toilets and showers etc and that can range from inconvenient to nasty. Hot summer days with people dancing and sweating can get old really quick. Festivals are not always a close proximity thing. Many are far out from civilization, so getting to them is not usually that easy. Basically, you have to do some major planning for a festival, like planning a vacation. It's not something you just do casually after work. And then there is food and water and all that sort of thing. My opinion is that for the most part, festivals are for younger folks who have limitless supplies of energy and haven't gotten accustomed to the niceties in life. I have no desire what so ever to do something like Bonnaroo anymore. 10 years ago, yes. Now, forget about that rat race. I don't know of a single one of my friends or relatives (many that go to concerts all the time) that has that desire anymore. Been there done that. These festivals exist mostly because the promoters and bands make more profit, not mostly because it's better for fans.

Lol, I hear ya. I am coming up on 60, and I haven't slowed down yet mostly because of my 17 y/o daughter! When she and I first went to Bonnaroo I really started noticing by day 2 that there wasn't anyone that looked even remotely close to my age. I told my daughter that to make myself feel better, that if she spotted anyone that she thought was close to my age, there was a $20 bill in it for her! I could see her just look and look and look, studying the faces in the crowd. This went on well into day 3 when she told me that she gave up! She said there was no one there my age, but she loved me anyway! "Smart ass kid" I said back, lol. (I really didn't give a rat's ass about finding someone my age... it was just a fun thing to do at the time! haha) Anyway, it wasn't until the night of day 3 that things changed. We went to the Alice Cooper concert, and as we neared the pavilion my daughter grabbed my arm, stopped us dead in our tracks, and said, "Dad...look! We found your people!" What she said was priceless! And yes, there we all were....all us "old timers" in one place! You would have thought it was a Steppenwolf concert, lol! Needless to say, 2 hours later, and minus a $20 bill, we concluded that it was just an awesome, awesome show!
