I just got my XPA-2 and XPA-5 installed a few hours ago. The first thing I did was to watch the first 10 minutes of Transformers. Several times during those 10 minutes I literally got chills from the amazing sound quality (I was giddy!). After that I listened to music for a while - various kinds including rock, jazz, synthesizer and pop. It's hard to put the difference into words but it seemed that the soundstage was wider. Additionally it felt like "restraints" from my previous amp had disappeared. Put another way (as many others have said) the amp sounds very dynamic. Keep in mind that these amps are replacing my Onkyo TX-NR1000 which has the best amps I've heard in a receiver (they are no slouch). Then I went back to more video- Star Wars Episode I and Raiders of the Lost Ark. The surround just completely enveloped me even more than before (in fact the first time I heard the THX trailer with the new amps I was blown away at how much different / better the surrounds sounded). All in all I'm very pleased and impressed. I think I'm going to be hanging out in my theater for much of the weekend. Also the sound of the XPA-2 is so good that I suspect I'll start listening to more music (typically I've been almost 100% movies). -- Dave

Hey Dave I just ordered the XPA2 to add to my XPA5, my room is not real big 14 ft by 18 ft. So my listening position from the front speakers is around 11ft. I am now having second thoughts on having this much power and not really needing it. My question is, do you think that these two amps would blow me out of the room or create hearing loss Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg, My room is 16' x 25' and my listening position is about 16' from the speakers. I didn't really buy these amps for high power though. Rather I wanted *clean* power and plenty of headroom (and I'll have to admit I was very impressed with the sound quality reviews I was seeing everywhere). I don't know how much power I'm using from these but I would guess it's nowhere near the max level (although you need to take into account your speaker impedance and sensitivity to know for sure). In my case the cost vs. build and sound quality ratio won me over. I've been listening to music and watching movies for much of the weekend and my cheeks are sore from smiling so much . FYI - I also need both amps because I have a 7.1 system. -- Dave
