I got my XPA-2 Gen 2 a couple of weeks ago. Put it into my credenza hooked it up to my Onkyo TX-NR905 receiver and wham! all the punch I was looking/hoping for. Last weekend I cranked it up for the first time. Threw on Blue Oyster Cult's "A Long Day's Night" DVD, whipped out my trusty Radio Shack SPL Meter and got a consistent 106db with 116 peaks. My city was "... On Flame with Rock and Roll". Now I have a problem. My credit card wants me to order the XPA-5 to take on the other 5 channels. The temptation is great. Try as I must, I don't know if I can resist.
Wow. If you're listening at those volume levels all the time, you won't be enjoying audio, or anything else you need hearing for, for long.

I am one of the few I guess. I actually A/B'd Gen 1 and Gen 2 XPA-2's and found in every instance the Gen 1 sounded superior. I recently sold my gen 2 and picked up another warranty friendly Gen 1. Also flipped another XPA-2 for a pair of Gen 1 XPA-1's.

I've had 5 xpa-1 gen 1's and have still kept one for my center channel as I am using 4 channels each of 2 X xpa-5 gen 2's for my fronts, and the 5th channel to be used for surround 5.0.
For the xpa-2's what ever you do don't short the speakers as fixing these is a *bleep*...shipping them ain't much fun either. But they like all the xpa range are great amps.
I've also had the xpa5gen1's but prefe the look and sound of the gen 2’s ...to each their own. And I still own 4 upa-1 monoblocks and 2 upa-500's too...just to keep my hand in.

I don't think he heard you the first time... As a follow up, it only takes 3.75 minutes to permanently damage your hearing at 106 db.
