So, my wife has been bugging me for Christmas gift ideas for weeks. I tell her "Don't get me anything 'cause there's nothing I need. Spend it on the kids". Well, that doesn't fly with my wife. She says "I'm not gonna have everyone opening up gifts Christmas morning while you sit there watching". So, last night I start browsing the web for a pair of XLR cables for my new Emotiva amp & preamp. I say to her "Hey sweetie, how 'about you get me a pair of these?" She replies "Wires? I'm not going to buy you wires for Christmas." "They're not JUST wires", I say to her. "They are balanced XLR interconnects." "What?" She replies in a now aggravated tone. I patiently reply "I'm going to use them to connect the preamp to the power amp." "You already have wires" she says. "Yeah, but those are unbalanced RCA connectors", I proclaim. The conversation ends with the expected "Whatever". Guess I'm not getting "wires" for Christmas now... Good thing she can cook!

I think the wife is the worst enemy of the audiophile A wife just made the sale of my meitner DAC fail, and it's not because the couple couldn't spend the money... If they don't get it, you can't spend it, that's all... sad...

I got her a new dishwasher and disposal My wife would become very angry if I would give her a dishwasher..... A new lens for her photo camera she would find more appropriate. I think the wife is the worst enemy of the audiophile Not in my case, my wife understands and hears the difference of quality audio.

My wife hears the difference too she just doesn't care about it. ..with that said I buy nothing for my rig without consulting her first, I get the usual "what's it for and can we afford it" but other than that she's awesome. Good luck with your wires cogito. Ivor

My wife rocks my friends. Not only has she purchased wires and some gear, which she now enjoys, when we spoke of purchasing a new TV she told me that it should be calibrated as well. She claims the money is well worth the service. Now that's a partnership for life!!!!!!

Guess I'm not getting "wires" for Christmas now... Good thing she can cook! In a very rare turn of events, your wife was doing you a favor. I think she was hinting at something more expensive/substantial. How about some room treatments? www.atsacoustics.com/item--ATS-Acoustic-Panel-24-x-48-x-2--1001.htmlMaybe a nice DAC? Then buy the wires yourself ;P

My wife won't even let me put Windows 7 and an SSD in her desktop, yet she still complains about quirks and how slowly the thing boots (it's an Intel quad core, it can handle it). Everything has to be subtle with her. I'll get her a gift for the holidays, but it has to be useful. This year she's decided we should get a Keurig - - woo hoo!! At least I'll have lots of coffee while I'm fiddling with Dirac.

Not quite sure as to why I'd ever need one.

Oh yeah, acoustic panels! She can get some fresh art in the house and you can get some great sound. And they can put family portraits on the panels too.

What's wrong with it? My appliance guy wanted to charge me 200.00 to replace a rear felt seal. Found a video online, ordered the seal at Amazon for $25.38 and installed it in about an hour and a half.
