so, for my work office, i purchased a new DAC and a USB power supply to feed it. i purchased the iFi (pronounced 'eye-fi') Nano iDSD DAC for my system and in between it and my win7 netbook PC is the Micro iUSB Power to ensure the DAC gets super clean, regulated USB power. here is a shot of the units connected to my office system:
here is the rundown of my work office gear:
Asus win7 netbook
JRiver v20.0
iFi nano iDSD DAC
iFi micro iUSB Power
1.5tb Western Digital ext HD
Dlink Gigabit wifi router
A/B audio/video selector
Emotiva miniX amp
Vintage Polk Audio Monitor 10 speakers
Monoprice speaker cable 14/4
Audioquest Forest USB cables
Audioquest Golden Gate interconnect cables
my office speakers, look just like these:
i created a secure network within my office, seperate from the work network of course, with my netbook connected via cat6 ethernet cable and my iPad3 connected via wifi so that i can control JRiver with my iPad3. the selector allows me to toggle between my audio system and my work computer. i used a pair of audioquest USB cables between the PC/iUSB Power & between the iUSB Power/nano iDSD DAC. i also used audioquest interconnects from the DAC to the switch and then on the output of the switch to the miniX amp. the analog cable from my work pc is a Monster 3/8" to RCA to the switch. everything works just fine, no problems, no issues i've been using it for 3 days now and it sounds amazing. i have the advantage of being able to listen to all my music, i have everything from MP3, WMAL, iTunes, FLAC & DSD digital music from 44.1/16 up to 192/24 plus DSD and it all just works.
this is a great sounding DAC for not a lot of money. the DAC, the power supply cost me $388.00 shipped that's a steal considering the thing can play everything up to 384/32, Quad DSD & DXD. the nano is about the size of pack of ciggy's but don't let the size fool you, this thing's got bite to it and plenty of it. it plays everything without any conversions or upsampling, everything, including DSD is played in their native resolution.
i am very happy, my office is rocking like crazy and i can easily recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade their digital audio capabilities and NOT spend a ton of money and still get top notched audio from a well made product that is nicely made and takes up very little space. I'm listening to Quincy Jones, "Big Band Bossa Nova" and man, does it sound sweet! thank you iFi.
my thanks to Brian Walsh of Essential Audio for making all of this happen with the sale of the products to me. i received incredible customer support from Brian, he answered all of my emails almost as quickly as i wrote them to him. he shipped the items to me at no cost 2 day shipping too! he kept me in the loop every step of the way and even checked up on me after i received the items. i highly recommend checking their site out as they have a wide variety of products, everything you need for super smooth audio!
