Hi All, I thought I would reach out for a little advice as my brain is overloaded and freezing up thinking about Christmas gift giving. My brother has a nice little stereo system : an Onkyo C-7030 CD player connected via analog output to an Onkyo C-9050 integrated amplifier (65 watts x 2 at 4 ohms) which is connected to Emotiva XRT 5.2 floorstanders. He still has the system on boxes so I may buy him an inexpensive Sanus audio rack for Christmas. He is old school (like me) and still buys CD's but recently has been listening to internet radio like Pandora on his laptop. I believe that would be similar to mp3 quality, not sure. He may download some higher resolution tracks in the future. What is a reasonable way for him to listen to digital music from his laptop through his stereo system that would sound similar to CD quality ? Wired or wireless ? I have an XDA2 which I am fairly happy with but do not think he needs something that complex. Any advice would be appreciated as I need to buy soon. Thank you !

I would opt for one of the many USB DAC's on the market.

Thanks for the reply. I think that is the problem. There are too many options. Some of those are powered and some are not. It's confusing and I always want my gifts to my brother to be "perfect."

The Dragonfly is a good option. You could also look at HRT or NuForce DAC's.
If you want to go wireless, you could get him a Sonos Connect.

I second the HRT. Nice DACs and not scary money too. In time for Xmas.
