So the XDA-2 Gen1 I just purchased is sounding really nice but at certain points I am getting audio breakup, comes and goes for about 5 - 10 seconds, doesn't do it on every song though. I have tried unplugging the XDA-2 from my Mac Mini changing output frequency and such with no change, almost seems like a certain higher frequency sets it off.
Has anyone else had this issue ?
Here's a video I took on my phone, I started recording it while it was happening and then it slowly went away

Can't get your video to play. Keeps saying "This Video Is Private".
Are you hooked up to the XDA's USB input?

I had a problem similar to that in my bedroom setup. It ended up being the shorting straps on the ERM-1s making a bad connection. I removed the straps and cleaned them and I haven't had that problem since. I'll make up a pair of lug connectors to replace the straps if it happens again.

It's possible that your XDA-2 gen 1 may need a firmware/software upgrade. There was an issue of the XDA-2 having break up noise over USB.

Never mind it is still doing it ?, might have to try toslink to see if it persists.

Chad,
I'm having a similar experience with the XDA-1 that I recently purchased. Not all the time, but short intervals of what sounds like static, or maybe more accurately, like the pops I remember from playing vinyl in the old days. I can't try any other inputs since I only have USB available from my PC. Think I'll try a new, better (?) USB cable before calling Emo to see if they have any suggestions.
Merry Christmas!

Swapped out the USB cable to a different, higher quality one. Sounded perfect with digital audio files, but still had occasional noise when playing a CD. So, took the disc out of the laptop and played it in a different laptop. No noise issues. So, ripped the disc to a WAV file (on the quiet laptop) and copied it to the offending laptop. The digital file is playing flawlessly. My conclusion is that there is a problem with the CD/DVD system in that laptop. Almost sounds like release of static electricity in the audio. Or something else. So, at this point, I'm no longer concerned for a problem with my XDA-1.
I hope it doesn't recur like it did for you, Chad!
PS: Now that I think about it, I was experiencing pops while breaking in my DIY subwoofers using that laptop playing low frequencies that had been recorded to CD. Guess I should have been more concerned about it then!

I have since changed my output settings in my Mac Mini from 44.1 to 96khz and had no issues ?, running either my ERC-1 or Oppo 103 coax into the XDA-2 has yielded zero issues, seems to be some USB setting issue with my Mac Mini.

Hi Chad,
My Gen 1 XDA-2 had this issue as well. It showed up for both my Mac and PC via USB. The fix was a firmware update from Emotiva. If memory serves, the installer program required a computer running Windows XP. The update process itself was painless and fixed the issue.
The only downside to the firmware update is that you'll lose 176.4 KHz playback via USB (all other digital inputs are unaffected). 192 KHz works fine though.
I'll send you a PM later today with the update package I received from Emotiva. You can at least look through the instructions and determine if this is something you want to do.

Sounds good thanks Ranger, seems to have been working fine for the past week now, I only have 44.1khz and a few albums in 48khz or 96khz but mainly everything is 44.1 flac or WAV from CD. Chad

I had a similar issue. Turned out that the gain on the XDA-2's output was set too high and was overloading my AVR's input section. The result was an overload condition which manifested itself as a static-like distortion in the high frequencies, especially noticeable during louder passages. With the USB input selected and playing music from my audio server, I simply adjusted the gain on the XDA-2 from +5.00 to -5.00. Sure I have to increase the volume of the AVR a bit further for the same loudness, but the distortion has been completely eliminated. Hopefully that solves the problem for others on here. It had me pulling my hair out for about three days before I discovered the problem and fixed it.

There was a software update that needs to be done by either Emotiva themselves or using a Windows XP PC only, unplugging my USB connection for a few seconds would fix the issue

Yep, that happens to me too.
I thought it was the PC being overworked, so I ended up buying a new PC that has nothing on it but FOOBAR and music. It worked perfect for a few months, but lately, it has started skipping as well.
No XP computer here, I just have to live with it I guess.

It's only a USB issue from what I have heard, it never happened to me using Coax or Optical inputs

My XDA-2 Gen 1 does the same thing from time to time. This is generally caused by some sort of electrical interference. For instance, my office is near the furnace and for some reason every time the furnace goes on, this noise starts. Doesn't happen very often during the warmer months of the year. Mobile phones near the computer can also cause this. High CPU load can also cause this.
