Purchased the pair in Nov 2010; enjoyed them with a pair of Carver AL IIIs till about 3 mths ago when I moved to more spacious accomadations ( house, from apartment) and paired them with a pair of full range electrostats ( Soundlab majestics 845) ; I have really been enjoying the sound these last few weeks until last night, returning home from a Christmas party , I powered up the system and realized I had no sound from one of the speakers. Did some trouble shooting this morning, involving switching interconnects and speaker cables, nailed it down to one of the XPA1s. Swapped out the XPA1s for an idle Sunfire with pretty decent sound.
I cant imagine what is wrong with the XPA1, I presumed amps were pretty bullet proof unless abused, and I dont believe I abused mine. I listen primarily to classical music /opera at moderate volume
The malfuntioning amp does trigger on ( blue) from the USP 1 but does not in turn trigger the funtioning amp; and only the first blue LED lights up ( while the one on the good amp jumps up ).

Does the amp turn on when the power button is pressed on the amp itself?

Yes it does turn on going from yellow to blue It is also triggered on from the USP 1 preamp but it does not go on to trigger the good XPA 1, I had to manually turn the latter on

That would be my guess as well. I had the same issue earlier this year. It was one of the bottom fuses 10amp 250v slo-blo. Once replaced the amp was working as normal again.

Yep - these have fuses for the front panel and for the amp rails. The amp rail fuse can fail, and the front panel will still look like all is fine but you get no sound.
If not that...bal/unbal switch in right location? Given the description, though...I agree fuses are more likely the issue.

Mark the bal/unbal switch is in the right location ( unbalanced) Thanks everyone, seems I might have a blown fuse. Manual says contact support@emotiva.com That's what I am going to do

It's likely something minor if the fault is only the trigger. Good luck.

no its not just the trigger the amp ( one of a pair) does not work ( no sound from speaker, the level lights do not move, only the first is lit, other amp is fine) incidentally I emailed emotiva support but have not heard from them as yet

UPDATE
It was the fuses!
for anyone that has to do this:
unplug the amp from all connections
turn it upside down ( if doing it on the floor, suggest placing towel or similar on floor before)
you will see a rectangular plate towards the front on the underside. Unscrew only the 12 peripheral screws
turn the plate over
there are 3 fuses present
In my case the first fuse ( counting from the front ) which I believe is for the display , was fine
The second and third fuses were clearly blown ( dark discoloration )
I replaced them with two 10 amp 125 volt , 20 mm fuses I picked up from Radio Shack ( packet of 4 for less than 4 bucks)
Amp now works fine!!

I'd like to add a small safety tip here. After unplugging the unit , let it rest and dispurse energy from the unit for 30 minutes.

ahhh, i am having the same problem with my XPA - 1 Gen 2, did a check on all the above, initially it was the amp going into protection mode. Then i unplugged all the cables and was left with power cord, swapped that and wall sockets and cables and unit still going into protection mode. then i removed the 12 screws and checked the fuse, there were only 2 and both were looking good and no black discoloration. Then i thought i might as well dust the unit with a blower to clear the dust then reassembled the whole thing back. This time, blue light came back on and no longer goes into protection mode. Was so happy, but.... NO SOUND from speakers . Have emailed emotiva support 4 days ago but till now not got a reply from them, i am from Singapore and it is difficult for us to call. HELP!

That's perfect. Thank you! Like the guy above, I was originally confused about the location of the fuses, and opened the top first, but after reading your post, I got it right. It's working great now.

This is a long dead thread, but I had a similar issue with a different cause on one of my XPA1s. I wanted to add my solution for anyone else who might have the issue in the future.
Primary cause: The ribbon cables that plug into the underside of the main board had come loose during transport. Even packed in the original boxes, both of the cables came loose and fell out. This only happened in one of three amps, so it isn't guaranteed to happen.
Additional issue: Some of the solder joints on the power board were bad. They were bad enough that one of the switched 120v in spade connectors pulled off the board when I tried to unplug the wire. It wouldn't surprise me if bad solder joints were the root cause of some of the blown fuses others have encountered.
