I've had the XMC-1 for a couple of months now. It was an upgrade from a PT-7030.
I am using an Epson 5030 for most viewing and an Oppo 103D as the main source. I also have a cable box, media PC and an Audio Engine Bluetooth adapter. I control everything with a Harmony One remote.
Things were quite solid with the 7030. Once I installed the XMC-1, I started having some intermittent issues.
When choosing "Watch Blu-ray" from my remote, sometimes the XMC-1 will start cycling through all the inputs. One it starts, I usually have to manually select the source to get it to work.
I recently put in an Apple TV, mainly for the better wireless "Airplay" from my iPhones. I can't get it to stay synced. The XMC-1 seems to be unable to match up to the Apple TV HDMI output.
I spoke to tech support. They had me manually choose RGB low on the Apple TV's video output. This didn't help.
I can run the Apple TV directly to my projector without issue. I also have a small monitor connected to the XMC-1's second HDMI output. It too can display the Apple TV directly, but not through the XMC-1.
I have turned off all HDMI "control" functions wherever I could.
I see that several people in here have Apple TV's with their XMC-1's. Looking for any suggestions to get things working.
One thing I am going to try tonight is to disconnect ALL other HDMI inputs to the XMC-1, except the Apple TV.
Thanks,
Eric

I would also disconnect the second output to the auxiliary monitor.

I would unplug everything , reboot the X1 and then reconnect just the apple tv and your projector. It is possible the 2 different resolutions of the PJ and monitor are confusing things. You could also try lowering the resolution on the apple tv .

FWIW, AppleTV seem to cause hdmi syncing issues all over the place. They caused several issues when I had my UMC-1. I know the Anthem AVR's have TERRIBLE issues with the AppleTV.
One thing I noticed that seemed to help my issues, when using the AppleTV don't turn off the processor (whatever make/model) without first switching to a different input source. With my macros I programmed the processor to switch to the cable box whenever leaving the AppleTV input. I've only had one issue since I made those changes and I think it was more to due with the projector than the processor.

It has been a while and I have tried just about everything suggested and many other things. It just keeps losing the "sync" with the video output of the Apple TV.
I have had it down to just the Apple TV, the XMC-1 and a computer monitor. It worked for a while and then the XMC-1 starts displaying the video format changing between RGB and YCBCR and the monitor and/or projector either display nothing or the video cuts out every 3-5 seconds.
The weird part is that it will work 100% for a short time. I actually thought I had an intermittent cable. In the process of testing, I swapped out the cables. It looked like everything was going to work, so I started connecting everything again and the issue started. I went back to just the 3 components and it worked for a while, but within an hour or so, it started the cycling again.
I'm wondering if I have a defective Apple TV. I think I'm going to try and swap mine out this week at the place I purchased it.

Run hdmi directly to the display and optical to the XMC.

Run hdmi directly to the display and optical to the XMC. Shouldn't really be necessary with an Apple TV. I've installed 4 of them, 1 with a UMC-1, mine with a UMC-200 and 2 with AVR's and not had a single HDMI HDCP handshake problem with any of them. Since the HDMI cable has already been swapped, I'd certainly give a try to swapping ATV's. Cheers Gary

My apple tv works fine with the UMC-1. Doesn't work with the XMC-1 (audio issues). I just gave up trying to figure it out.
Cheers Mark

Cheers Gary Yes. The audio is fine through the UMC-1 or straight to the tv via either connection. Neither works with the XMC most of the time. It comes and goes but doesn't work 90+% of the time. Tried different cables and inputs as well. Really tried everything I could think of. Cheers Mark

I also haven't tried since 2.0 so that might have fixed a glitch in my XMC SW if that was the issue. Cheers Mark

Not that this helps much, but AppleTV Works well with my fusion via HDMI. Have not tried it with my XMC-1.

The handshake issue is common not just with emotiva, but with many other AVRs as well. And, Apple TV is one of the frequently mentioned products when it comes to a handshake issue. What makes it worse, emotiva also seems to have a long history of handshake issue. I think the best solution is to use optical out from Apple TV to your XMC-1 and hdmi to your TV directly. By a small chance, your hdmi cable maybe a source of problem as well. Good luck!

The "main" reason for the Apple TV was the ability to AirPlay my iPhone's audio to the XMC-1. Anyone have any experience with non-Apple AirPlay solutions, like the Qnology AirEnabler? Obviously, the Apple TV is the preferred connection for simplicity and the video features as well. I'm going to try and sway out my ATV this weekend.

I'm using Apple TV 3 now with the XMC-1, before I used it with the UMC-1, zero problems with both setups. The only difference is the XMC-1 locks much faster to the signal than the UMC-1.

Eric- zero problems with my Apple TV and XMC-1. I use the Apple TV optical out for two channel listening (my iTunes music library) and the HDMI out for everything else.

Before trying non-Airplay solutions have you tried running audio via TOSLink as bootman suggested? I've rarely had ATV problems, but when I have TOSLink usually takes care of them.
