I purchased a new Apple TV from a local Radio Shack because the Wal-Mart I purchased the original from was out of stock. Unfortunately, the next day, I went to return the original and found out I was 1 day pat the return period. That is not a story for this board.
Anyway, the new one seems to be working OK. I left it on all weekend and was able to switch between the different inputs on the XMC-1 without it "freaking out." I'll keep playing with it this week to see if it continues to hold up.
One thing I didn't do was update the firmware. I'm pretty sure the first time I noticed the issue was after I updated the firmware. However, I updated it withing the first 24 hours, so the two may not be related.
I appreciate the suggestions to simply use the TOSLINK, but that just wouldn't sit well with me.

I appreciate the suggestions to simply use the TOSLINK, but that just wouldn't sit well with me. Glad the new unit is working out. If this was a Blu-ray player then indeed TOSLink would be a compromise, in the case of AppleTV however TOSLink can pass all the codecs it can generate. Still I understand wanting HDMI to work right and now that it is this is moot, but for others playing along it's a good option and troubleshooting tool.

Now, another issue has taken over my XMC-1. I thought the Apple TV was causing all of it, but it is not.
I'm using a Harmony One remote to control everything under most conditions. I need to see if there are a new set of codes for the XMC-1, because the up/down arrows don't work in the menu.
Anyway, the XMC-1 is still cycling through inputs when I go from any other input to my Oppo-103D on HDMI-1 through the macro.
I originally thought it all had to do with the Apple TV, becuse I didn't notice it till I hooked it up. However, I also realized that before I hooked it up, I was using the Oppo for 95% of my listening through the XMC-1. It may have been an issue the whole time, but because I was "always" on HDMI-1, I never noticed it.

I've had the XMC-1 for a couple of months now. It was an upgrade from a PT-7030. I am using an Epson 5030 for most viewing and an Oppo 103D as the main source. I also have a cable box, media PC and an Audio Engine Bluetooth adapter. I control everything with a Harmony One remote. Things were quite solid with the 7030. Once I installed the XMC-1, I started having some intermittent issues. When choosing "Watch Blu-ray" from my remote, sometimes the XMC-1 will start cycling through all the inputs. One it starts, I usually have to manually select the source to get it to work. I recently put in an Apple TV, mainly for the better wireless "Airplay" from my iPhones. I can't get it to stay synced. The XMC-1 seems to be unable to match up to the Apple TV HDMI output. I spoke to tech support. They had me manually choose RGB low on the Apple TV's video output. This didn't help. I can run the Apple TV directly to my projector without issue. I also have a small monitor connected to the XMC-1's second HDMI output. It too can display the Apple TV directly, but not through the XMC-1. I have turned off all HDMI "control" functions wherever I could. I see that several people in here have Apple TV's with their XMC-1's. Looking for any suggestions to get things working. One thing I am going to try tonight is to disconnect ALL other HDMI inputs to the XMC-1, except the Apple TV. Thanks, Eric Eric, I've been having the exact same issue. First thought it was internet, then quickly realized its the HDMI losing lock with the XMC-1. I have a JVC projector hooked up on the output (no second monitor).

My AppleTV was plug and play; with UMC-1 and XMC-1 /b I'm starting to wonder if previous versions Apple TV's have a different HDMI protocol that is tripping up and causing sync problems. I have a new one in another bedroom and might try to switch and test.

I am finding that my Apple 4K TV will not properly play through my XMC-2 box. Even Emotiva support tells me that they have a problem with the Apple TV. Does anybody have any suggestions? If I connect my Apple TV directly to my Samsung 8K TV it plays just fine.

If I connect my Apple TV directly to my Samsung 8K TV it plays just fine. Like most I have no problems with my Apple TV4K and XMC-1 they co exist very well. That's not to say I plugged it in and it worked first time. The HDMI cable needed an upgrade, so I took the opportunity to make it as short as possible (75 cm). Next I had to change some settings, such as turning off the devil's twins (ARC & CEC), that's the first priority in both units. Note that I have a Samsung TV so no Dolby Vision. Then I tweaked the settings in the ATV4K, there is a post somewhere where I listed them ...... there it is ... my ATV4K is set to "4KHDR 60 hz", chroma "4.2.2" with Match Range and Match Rate both "on". Try that, it has worked for mine and for a few others that I have set up/helped set up. Cheers Gary
