I found the Emotiva ERC-1 firmware update. (see attached) MTK.BINFile date is 11/2/2009 From the inserted text with CD: " ERC-1 Software UpdateInstall: Insert CDR into the ERC-1, as you would any CD. The display will read 'Loading' for about 15 seconds or so, then eject the disc, while still reading 'Loading'. Reboot: After ejecting the CDR, the ERC-1 will continue to read 'Loading' for about 30-45 seconds, then the display will change to 'Emotiva', then 'Loading', then 'No Disc', then 'Ready'. When the display reads 'Ready', power the unit down with the Standby button. Wait a few moments, then return the ERC to full power with the Standby button again. The software is now updated." Mike PS - I also posted in this thread: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/38516/erc-1-3PS2 - I would suggest an Emotiva "Support" website URL that includes prior firmwares, etc. MTK.BIN (964.83 KB)

If so, any particular software with certain settings in the burning process, as I believe I remember when this CD update disc came from Emotiva, that there was no replicating the update disc.

I'm in Japan currently so going on my slightly fuzzy senior citizen memory of the correction CD-R.
Stiehl11 was correct when he stated in the linked thread: my ERC-1 would "clip" the first millisecond of sound upon start-up
I experienced this with both my ERC-1 and ERC-2. I called Emotiva at the time and received a CD-R from them with instructions to correct this issue which solved the skip. I don't think all units had this issue or perhaps some folks never paid close enough attention to hear it. I think I still have this CD-R at home.
Note: although it was only a few milliseconds or so long it was quite obvious if one listened carefully. This was only when first powering on and playing the first track. It would skip again only if you turned off the unit and on again and then the skip would reappear. Once playing the CD it would not skip again if you went back to track #1.

I had the same problem with my ERC-1. I received the CD that had the file to correct the issue, but even after using it the problem remained. So I just ended up restarting the first track of the first CD I played during each session. Sort of annoying but it wasn't a deal breaker and wasn't enough to bring out any overly dramatic cat.

My current ERC-1, and the other ERC-1 and ERC-2 I used to own all experience this phenomenon.

If anybody needs this CDR with the ERC-1 fix I will send it to you and you can pass it on to others. The one we do not speak of was in charge of this a long time ago and the fix worked perfect for my ERC-1 and has not done it since even after I turn it off.

I have tried it by burning my own disc, but it will not work. Went through two CDRs, tried it as a media disc and as a file disc, and no luck either way. Does anyone have the disc that fixes this or can offer any insight? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I will try contacting customer service on Monday.

I'd be most appreicative if you let us know what you hear. I too have tried burning a few discs without any luck and I believe my ERC-1 could use this update after it's loader had to be replaced a couple years back.

Note that not all users experience this problem with all units, so we do NOT consider this to be a mandatory update..... We don't have any physical copies of the disc left - but I've attached a copy of the update file and the current official instructions. All you need to do is to burn a data CD with the file on it. There's nothing special about the file, but you need to know that, even though there are disc image files with the .BIN extension, our update file is NOT a disc image file. It is simply a regular file, so you need to burn a regular data CD, with that file on it. ( DO NOT let your CD burning software treat it as an image file. DO NOT make it a "bootable CD".) If your burning software has trouble with this, you could try ImageBurn (www.imgburn.com) - which is an excellent - and free - CD burning program. I should, however, also warn you of one thing.... If you fail to follow the instructions for the update carefully, it will quite possibly result in your ERC-1 becoming inoperative. And, even if you do follow the instructions correctly, there is a small but non-zero chance of your ERC-1 becoming inoperative if the update "fails". IF THIS HAPPENS, THEN YOUR ERC-1 WOULD STOP WORKING, AND WOULD HAVE TO BE RETURNED TO US HERE FOR REPAIRS. If this happens, and your ERC-1 is still under warranty, then those repairs would be covered under warranty. However, if your ERC-1 is no longer under warranty, then you would have to pay a standard repair fee. I've attached both the update file and the instructions. Wow, thanks for this. I have an ERC-1 and ERC-2 and both units have this first start-up sound skip on CD's. Emotiva said they would send me the disc to fix this but never got it so sent email a couple more times letting them know I hadn't gotten the disc yet but never heard anything back and then after a LONG LONG time of no get, I contacted Emotiva again in Jan. 2018 and told them I still haven't received the fix and they informed me that they couldn't send it now because no more copies or access to the file that I was out of luck now. They never said it was on here, I just found this by doing a search.
Thanks for posting, now I can finally fix this annoying problem that I have been having for a number of years now. Does this work on ERC-1 and ERC-2? I have the same problem on both units the ERC-1 and ERC-2. Thanks.
