I'm not sure if this post is in the right section so move it if not.
I just bought a DC-1 to go with a Sherbourn PT-7030 for 2 channel music. I plan to hook it up between the 7030 and the amps using regular analog RCAs to give me better SQ for music only. I'll unhook it for movies.
Has anyone done this and if so, what were the results? Was it noticeable. I know others have done this even if not with a Sherbourn, with another prepro. Just looking for feedback....

I had this combo but you want the DC-1 between your source and Sherbourn. You should not have to disconnect anything when watching movies, I would have thought. I had a PC connected to the DC-1 from its USB port. Then if I wanted to watch a movie on the PC, I switched to HDMI (which the PC is also connected). Just had to change what audio was being used by the PC. (USB or HDMI) My programs on the PC did this automatically. Foobar, Jriver, Aimp3 etc and MediaPortal for my Movies.
What source do you have and wanting to use?

Hey man, were you not contemplating this idea a little while back ?, I did have a DC-1 that I had connected to the XLR inputs of my 7030 and would once and a while disconnect it and go straight to my XPA-1L's to achieve a bit better SQ. One thing you could do to make life more simpler is grab a used or new XSP-1 and use the HT bypass when using the 7030 for material and the DC-1 and XSP-1 when using it for 2ch music, there is one for sale on here a Gen1 XSP-1 in the emporium unless it sold already. I would love a XSP-1 to do just that but my audio funds are no more haha. I say grab a XSP-1 if funds allow it, used or a trade in or B-Stock from Emotiva, because disconnecting and reconnecting cables all the time is a pain in the *bleep* Here ya go emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/40538/xsp-1-gen1-fsChad

My main source for music is an OPPO 95 for CDs and sometimes the TV. I'm confused about where to put the DC-1 because I thought putting it between the Sherbourn and the amps would make it the last filter for the music. It seems that putting it between the source and Sherbourn would cause the Sherbourn to negate any filtering from the DC-1. Maybe my logic is distorted or doesn't make sense.

I had a USP-1 but sold it so my funds are dried up too so I need to work with this and the 7030.

To connect it straight to your amps, you would bypass the sherborn all together. Like the other poster mentioned.

Putting it between the 7030 and you amps makes no sense as you would have to use the analog inputs of the DC-1 and would then not be taking advantage of the DC-1 DAC, I have my DXA-2 XLR outs going to my 7030 XLR input, so I'm using the XDA-2's internal DAC and passing the analog through my 7030 to my Stealth speakers, I find my 7030 analog stage to be as good as my USP-1 I once owned and the XSP-1 is from what I have heard better yet. Do you need the DC-1 for anything digital in particular as the Oppo 95 balanced out to the XSP-1 would be great as well since the Oppo is supposed to have quality DAC's. Chad

Then, what would be the best way to connect the OPPO to the DC-1. Digital or analog??

Personally I would use the Digital Coaxial out from the Oppo to the DC-1, do you have other digital sources you are using to connect to the DC-1, if not the DC-1 may not even be needed in your system since the 95 is supposed to have a really great DAC itself, you could also connect the 95 to the 7030 via analog and switch between the two inputs to see if you like one better than the other. oppo coax to DC-1 to 7030 analog input and oppo analog to 7030 analog input and switch between the two analog inputs on the 7030 to see which you prefer or if you notice difference at all

Sounds good but I thought adding the DC-1 might improve it. We'll see what happens.

Dacmagic goes to 7030 via XLR input. It is supposed to go straight to input 1. For the life of me, on and off for 4 years, I can NOT get any sound out of it. Process elimination, headphone works, from the DAC. Disconnect 7030 and run DAC straight to power amp, it WORKS. The only missing link is the 7030. It works when laptop goes to 7030 via HDMI. The problem is somewhere in 7030. Do I have to do anything to enable XLR input in the 7030? Or is the XLR input not working? It's been like this since day 1. I have a pair of Gallo 3.5's, supposed to be not bad speakers. But thru HDMI my system sounds like an AM sold state 4" x 6" radio in a nun's room. An audiophile said a DAC would make a world of difference. I knew that. But it's been 4 years I can't get anything out of it. Someone pls help me before I burn this system up. Thank you in advance. Oh, I am expecting a Spectron Musician III power amp, same amp Gallo used, to drive my speakers. But I have a feeling I have to use an external DAC instead of HDMI to 7030.

Yes per manual it is Input 1, do you have anything else to test with that has XLR outputs Chad
