Great new acquisition: Just received and ripped "The Complete Verve Studio Master Takes" by Billie Holiday. These are from Billie's later years, 1952-59, when she was recording with Verve. By that time all the studios were recording to tape, introduced by Ampex in 1947 (the Bing Crosby Show, aired on Oct. 1, 1947, was the first radio broadcast prerecorded on tape).
I have some older Holiday tracks recorded in the '30s and early '40s, when recordings were made directly to wax or maybe wire. They are pretty awful, audio-wise, but these are excellent.
I also already had one of the Verve albums included in this set. So duplicated that one. :-(
100 tracks on 6 CDs. Verve claims they did the digital transfer at 96/24.
Set comes in a cool metal box with an informative booklet. $47 at Amazon.

Nice pick up! Personally, the pain in her voice on the later recordings is just a bit too much to sit through, but then that is part of her power and magic.

i picked this up a while ago at HDTracks and it sounds amazing with the big band doing the music. FLAC 192khz/24bit @ 6241kbps avg. bitrate!
