I have a set of xlr to rca wires. I think the pins "ground and negative" are shorted together. Is this safe for the DAC?
My rca output go to another device.

same question. how to connect properly xlr -> rca ? roniker.ru/Zametki/Commutation/Raspayka_audiocable.jpgas per 4 or 6? or another option, same with "6" but not crossing pin 1 with 3. as far as i know when output is a true balance crossing "-" with "ground" is prohibited.

Absolutely you could. Remember you will not be able to take advantage of the common noise cancelation running balanced allows as your connection ignores the invert signal, but otherwise no problem at all. If you are coming from an RCA out to the XDA-2 balanced input you are fine. I do like the converter a couple posts up, and that maybe a great idea too.
