When running Dirac, is it best to Link Speakers (FL/FR, SL/SR, etc.) or would you get better results with separate speakers? Or, it all depends ......
Thanks,
Steve

I'm NOT an expert, but I think I like it better when they're not linked.

My feeling would be the same. Even though both of my fronts are the same, their area of placement is different. It would seem it would be better to let Dirac treat them separately. I will end up doing it both ways of course to see (hear) which sounds better to me.
Thanks for the input,
Steve

Sorry to go off topic, but one day, Thunderduck is going to have to post twice in a row followed by wilburthegoose. Then we can have "duck, duck, goose". Sorry, could not resist (and no disrespect to your screen names...esp. Thunderduck whose screen name, IIRC, has a special meaning from his days with the State Dept.).
Back on topic...I get mine on Tuesday, and will be treating them separately.

I'm still laughing as I write this. That was good!
Actually, the name is what the Marines called the squids going to CT A school in Pensacola. The CT insignia is a lightening bolt and quill, so Thunderduck. Of course, we were called a lot worse things than that by Marines at time.
Ok, everyone back on your heads, we have been OT long enough.
Take care,
Steve

I noticed something that I haven't seen mentioned, so I'll bung it here. If your XMC is set to "video remains on" standby mode, and is currently in standby, starting up Dirac on a computer will also start the XMC. This is very nice if you're just messing about with curves and filters. It is useless if you're intending to take measurements, because it doesn't trigger any amps.

Hello, I am writing to you on the forum because you do not answer to my e-mails. I live in Paris, I received my xmc1 three weeks ago but I have not been able to use the dirac because the USB cable and the microphone do not work. I made a test in an audio show with another xmc1 and the cable and the micro did not work either... Please tell me what I have to do, I sent several e-mails to tou but any solution was given to me! Regards.

Dear patjero,
You should not need to use another XMC-1 to see if the USB and microphone work, so I worry that you may be plugging the microphone into a USB socket of the XMC-1.
If this is the case, are you able to plug the USB cable into the PC and test it there?

The microphone (and USB converter cable) are plugged into your computer. Your computer and your XMC-1 are then connected to your network. You then run the Dirac software on your computer. The computer and your XMC-1 then communicate over your network. When you plug the microphone into your computer, it should be recognized, and can even be used as a regular microphone (on the computer). The drivers should load automatically, and are standard Windows drivers. (If your computer has another built-in microphone, that may be set as the default, in which case you will have to pick ours as your default "recording device".) You cannot plug the microphone directly into your XMC-1, and the XMC-1 will not do anything if you do so. Hello, I am writing to you on the forum because you do not answer to my e-mails. I haven't poured over every post on this thread but a quick question,,,,,,,,
If I'm using a CS UMIK-1 mic, then I don't need/use the cable that came with the Emo mic. Correct? This is how I take my readings,,,,,just want to make sure there accurate.
Thanks.

I'm wondering if it might be of advantage to spring for the Dirac outboard box in lieu of the internal Dirac feature with the XMC-1?
I'm not afraid to spend the extra $$ if it behooves the XMC-1 owner for the sake of less hassle... just a question. I'd much rather keep the signal clear with less hardware involved.
