I have a dual system (two sources) one is a fully balanced surround prepro only for movies and the other a 2 channel unbalanced for music.
Originally I had it set up with XLR and RCA and would just use the switch in the back of the XPR-1's. But I had a bit too long of a run on the RCA and it was picking up EMI so I went with a balanced switch box that I had been using with my previous amp.
The good thing is; I no longer have the EMI from the 2 channel source the the bad thing is; I no longer have the meter on the front panel. Something I can live with since the 2 channel sounds perfect with RCA-XLR.
So maybe Emotiva should add this information in the manual that when a unbalanced source is connected via XLR there will be no power/peak meter on the front panel

My meters have never worked within the Volume range I use (RCA or XLR). I disconnected my speakers to see if they would ever respond to a signal. It wasn't until I had my Volume turned way up past -15dB that I would get a small ticking of the meters. This would be at a point where the speakers would blow and destroy my ears, the reason for disconnecting my speakers.
