ASSUMING YOUR SOURCE IS A PREAMP OR ONE OF OUR DACS - AND HAS ITS OWN VOLUME CONTROL:
You want to connect the line level output of your source to the line level input of the SUB;
then connect the line level output of the SUB to the inputs of the Mini-X.
If you connect it this way you can use the level controls on the Mini-X and on the sub to set the relative level of both
BUT YOU MUST USE THE LEVEL CONTROL ON THE SOURCE TO ADJUST THE VOLUME ON BOTH TOGETHER AFTER THAT
(if you move either the level on the sub or on the mini-x separately, you will change the relative balance).
This way you have an actual line level crossover keeping low frequencies from your main speakers.
This is the preferred way to do it.
ASSUMING YOUR SOURCE DOESN'T HAVE A VOLUME CONTROL AND YOU NEED TO USE THE VOLUME CONTROL ON THE MINI-X:
You will want to connect the line level output of your source to the line level input of the Mini-X,
and the speaker output of the Mini-x to BOTH your speakers AND the speaker level inputs on the SUB.
You will then use the level control on the sub to adjust the relative level between the mains and the sub.
Once you do that, you will leave the level control on the sub alone and use the Mini-X volume control to control your volume.
This way the sub is "picking off" the signal it needs from the output of the Mini-X, which allows the Mini-X to control the volume.
Since the Mini-X is amplifying ALL the signal, without a crossover, this way is slightly less efficient
(the sub is acting as "fill" for the low notes, but nothing is keeping the Mini-X and your main speakers from trying to also produce them).
Hi there,
First of all let me apologize if my post is out of place in this form. I am quite new to this whole community thing.
I do have an Emotiva home theater system but my query here is regarding a carver sub and some satellite speakers.
I have a sub and satellite system that I am not too sure how to set up.
I just got hold of a Carver Knight Shadow powered sub which I intend to hook up with two passive satellite speakers using an Emotiva mini X100a integrated amp.
Usually with my other subwoofers, I would normally run the speaker wires from the integrated amp and to the sub speaker IN connectors and then another set of speaker cables from the sub speaker OUT to the satellites.
However in this present situation the Carver subwoofer RCA inputs and outputs.
The sub has two sets of regular speaker connectors but they are labeled as inputs. There are no regular speaker connector outputs. I am not sure how to connect my sattelites with this particular sub.
I just want this setup for music listening. The amp does not have an LFE or sub out.
I would really appreciate any help I can get.
Thank you
Winston
I have attached pics of the amp and the rear of the sub. The speakers are just normal connectors.
