Afer returning my UMC-200 due to HDMI issues , Im on the market of a good AV pre pro for Music & Movies that would match my XPA-2 , XPA-3 amps and my B&W speaker set up. Im not looking to break my pocket so if i could find a pre pro less than or a little over 1 K. You suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jonas

Bummer about the HDMI issues; my UMC-200 has performed flawlessly in the connectivity and DHCP area.
Maybe look for a used Marantz pre/pro.

Good luck, the HDMI HDCP standards interpretation current generation differences are the same for all. Chances are if you have a problem with them on a UMC-200 then there will be AVRs with the same if not worse.
Cheers Gary

Good question! The ever moving HDMI and HDCP standards and implementations make it Russian roulette. I've had 2 x Denons same model, one had no problems with the cable box, the other (later serial number) didn't like the same cable box one little bit. Getting an answer as to why out of Denon was an exercise in frustration. Whereas Emotiva with one phone call advised me to try the simple swap to toslink for audio, which works perfectly.
Cheers Gary

Seems like great unit! Basic but nice. But from an electronic standpoint a virtual twin of the UMC-200. Still doesn't mean that it will work better or worse in HDMI switching in a particular system.

My family is using the Outlaw Processor and we do have HDMI and Handshake issues as well. We never are able to hear the first ~0.25-0.5 Seconds of songs as the processor seems to not know there is a source connected until a signal is passed through it. On the same note, HDMI drops out at times like between each movie preview on blu-rays and the main menu. When pressing "Play Movie" on a film, the processor signal will drop out then reconnect after an actual visual/audio signal is present.
It's a small nuisance that we never had on a non-HDMI B&K Processor, but I'm not sure the extent of your troubles with the UMC-200 so this might be a step up anyway.

Most are like new. Buy the extra warranty, and get the unit with NEW term warranty at a very good price. This site has many brands to choose from. I've dealt with them previously - good seller. www.accessories4less.com/

...But from an electronic standpoint a virtual twin of the UMC-200... While they do many of the same things and share a few (but not many) parts in common as is the case with all home theater products, the internal architecture of these two products is quite different as they were most certainly designed by different teams and built by different factories. Far from twins; not even distant cousins. Both do many things well, each does some things better than the other as no product is perfect. Which is best depends on an individual's specific needs and preferences.

As far as the handling of digital signals, they both use the same HDMI and Cirrius DSP chipsets. I agree the input choices and analog implementation along with software features used in the DSP are totally different but that doesn't usually affect HDMI issues that much. Example: Outlaw decided not to use the PEQ feature of the DSP but it is there in hardware. That was more my point. You should take a closer look at the NuForce AVP-18 to see other examples of similar platforms.
