I am looking for an inexpensive Blu-Ray player to use with a DC-1 that can play SACD, DVD-A formats. Any input is appreciated.

Good luck! I will be paying attention to this thread. I have been looking high and low. You will get the obligatory "just pay for the Oppo (which I already have one of). Last years Sonys play SACD but no DVD-audio. There are some used Pioneer Elites out there but not easy to come by. Even a used Oppo BDP-83 goes for $300+ on Ebay.

A new blu ray player that also plays SACD's for less than an Oppo 103, sorry I haven't seen one. I think used would be the only option, but even then a used Marantz, Cambridge, Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha etc is going to cost around the same as a new 103. Used Oppos hold their value extremely well, so you might get a 93 for a bit less.
There is a reason why Oppos own the market, no one else can really compete on quality, features and price.
Cheers Gary

Sony BDP 5100 can do SACD (but only 48khz for non HDMI). It's about $90. Just a warning, every once in a while it will crash and its GUI is just a little awkward. I think 's the main stumbling block is that most players out there when outputting via non HDMI outputs downsample to 48khz for SACD. As for DVD-A good luck!

Look for used if you want cheaper. That is the state of the market.

I have that one too- works fine for me. no comparison though to anything else. Do you run that into the DC-1 for CDs? (Or is that long string of connections how you listen to music from your tags?)

Yeah I mainly use the PC for music. But haveo cassionally used the sony to the DC-1 for CD's. I use it more for movies with the DC-1.

I love the Oppo, but from the manual:
Due to copyright restrictions and bandwidth limitations, SACD audio cannot be sent through the coaxial/optical audio output, and the high resolution audio on DVD-Audio and Blu-ray discs will be sent out at reduced resolution.

Nothing different there. No player will send SACD (DSD) content out over coax or Toslink. It's against the licensing. And coax and Toslink just cannot carry Dolby True HD or DTS MA no matter the player. Just not enough bandwidth. So it's not an Oppo limitation but rather a technology limitation. The Oppo can send DSD over HDMI and decoded DSD out the analog outputs.

You're right about the downsampling - but it goes further than that. By license requirement, players aren't ALLOWED to put out full quality digital audio from an SACD via any digital output other than HDMI. (Strictly speaking, I believe that " a secure type of connection" is the actual requirement... and HDMI is just the only current one that qualifies. The intent is to prevent direct digital recording of the content on an SACD. This means that you will find that limitation on any current "licensed and legal" player - although there are rumors that some vintage players were non-compliant.) DVD-1 just isn't very popular lately.

Don't get me wrong.. I was not slamming the oppo...
I love my player. It is solid and I expect it to last a very long time. I fully recommend anyone who wants to BR player to just save up and get one. They rock. If you don't have the money now, save up.
I have owned Sony/Toshiba DVD players.. I own a secondary SONY BR player and they are toys compared to the Oppo.

Well this was educational, I did not understand the limitations of the coaxial/optical interface. I may have to rethink my recent DC-1 purchase.

No DVD-audio on that one though. Looks like a quality player.

Easy - BDP-62FD Elite. Some are still available at Bestbuy/Magnolia stores, but they aren't listed on their websites.
