Gentleman, i'm looking for my next upgrade and i would like some opinions about which piece of equipment get first and why to get some improvement in my 2ch sysytem. After my failed attempt of replacing my ERC-2 with the 3, i'm back to the drawing board. I have in mind for a preamp the audio gd master 1 and schiit gaugnir for DAC. I mainly listen CDs , so any inputs will be appreciated

So to get this straight you currently have an audio gd master 1 and a parasound p3 both of which are in use for pre-amp stuff? Other than the ERc-2 do you have anything else that you use as a DAC?

I only have the p3 and no DAC, the master 1 is a candidate for preamp upgrade

Gotcha.... well I love the look of audio gd's internals but never heard it. Hmmm..... Honestly I don't know. They are both good ideas.

I have heard the Audio GD. Comes in many models. I like them. Well made, and a great value. If you plan to get the Gungnir, remember the Gungnir really sounds its best running Balanced out, though it will run Single Ended too.
How about the Emotiva Professional Stealth DC-1 DAC, it is very open and transparent. Fully differentially balanced too if you want to run balanced as the Gungnir can. The dark horse, and I think a winner too for right in the middle is the Schiit Audio Bifrost with the Uber Analog board, and USB 2.0 option too. This is great if you never plan to run balanced. Save some bucks, and still get most of the Gungnirs good stuff, like the DC Servo etc. Gets it done for $519.00. The Gungnir is $849.00 with USB 2.0 input option.
Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC is only $499.00 and lets you have both the Balanced and Single ended, and USB built in, and also even a vacant analog input for that something special Analog.
Your under $1,000.00 have allot of great DACs. Another is the Wyred 4 Sound DAC-1 LE at $999.00. Even decodes DSD. Well made, and has a great sound too!
Nope I am not making this easy. Yeah, I get that. But DACs are great fun, especially under a grand. For me since I already have the Stealth DC-1, and building another system, the Schiit Audio Bifrost Uber analog board, and USB 2.0 option is my choice. I don't need balanced here. Have fun. And enjoy every bit of your music!

;)Hey vcautokid, i hear you. The audio gd that i have in mind is only for preamp as the xps-1 has extra stuff that i dont need/want. For DAC I'm gonna compare the dc-1 and the gungnir and keep the best at least to my ears and system, it would be nice if de dc-1 wins the battle so i can save 300 bucks (eclub member here) but you are right things get more complicated later on, what i know is tha my XPR-2 is staying at least until i upgrade to XPR monos

I have a DC-1 and no one is getting it. It sounds that good. I'm using it as a headphone amp/dac fed from a PC.
