I decided to connect my OPPO 103 via the analog out instead of HDMI. When running the "test tones" in the OPPO I found the subwoofer channel to be excessively loud. If I set the level as my SPL meter would read it, the sub would be waaay too low during play back of any material.
So, I adjusted the sub by ear, not SPL. But why would the sub be different than the other speakers while running the test tones?
Now the analog setting with the OPPO is still much quieter than the HDMI setting overall (by at least 5 clicks) when going back and forth, but I can simply turn the master volume up and no big deal.

I mainly use the 7.1 anaolg out of my 103 to my PT-7030 processor but have never adjusted anything within the 103 speaker settings wise, I actually find the volume a few db's higher than using the HDMI connection to my 7030.

How do you adjust for speaker distance, size, crossover, and level without making adjustments in the OPPO? If the OPPO is left at default settings wil the UMC-200 settings still be in place for the analog out?

Not sure, I do my settings in the 7030 in terms of crossovers and distances, I have never touched the oppo speaker settings

You can do speaker adjustments only with the analog outputs on the Oppo. When you select analog out in the Oppo setup, the speaker settings are highlighted. When you select digital outs on the Oppo, the speaker settings get blanked out. Analog out will allow the Oppo to set speaker distances, levels, etc.

Found it in the Owner's manual. Adjustments to the speaker size, crossover, and distance can only be made in the OPPO for analog output. However, pg. 70, the trim levels do not need to be adjusted in the OPPO if your A/V processor has the capability. creimes, you may benefit from these adjustments?
Tried this and seems to be the answer, sounds great! Main Con is limited bass control. I typically set fronts to 70hz and center and surrounds to 100hz. OPPO only allows for one setting across all speakers. So 80hz it is!
Thanks for the responses.
Ya know. It is funny how different sometimes sounds "better" at first. I set up the analog and think, "Wow that REALLY sounds great!". Then end up migrating back to the HDMI? The sound stage is the biggest improvement with the analog setting to me. It seems to open up, Norah Jones was right there in my room singing to me. But the bass is much better with the HDMI connection. I don't really understand why some of the bass is lost with the analog, but maybe has something to do with the DIRECT setting that accompanies the analog?
