I can't judge the audio tests but just as an fyi ken rockwell is an absolute joke in the world of photography (which is his primary field of work).
I've tried Dirac for the iPhone, if you use it with the standard headphone jack its not that impressive. With a portable preamp its probably a different story though.

Because personally I'd be careful about any statements or tests coming from a guy that specializes in photography yet is the laughing stock of the photography world, that's all.
The guy is a salesman, he has made statements and weeks later stated the exact opposite.

Just a mini rant on Rockwell on my side. iPhone 6 seems to be doing quite good, I'm happy with mine but I'd def like to give a small external amp a shot.

I kind of disagree about Ken Rockwell.... I wouldn't say that he's "a laughingstock". He is OPINIONATED, both about photography and about other things, and he does have a propensity to speak as if his opinions are facts, which does warrant the "be careful about what you believe" warning. However, I still find his blog to be informative, as long as you approach it with the understanding that you may not necessarily agree with everything he says. If laughing stock is too strong of an expression I'll say that a lot of people working in the industry that are highly regarded don't take him seriously when it comes to his actual photography and his approach to photograpy which despite what he writes is very focused around what gear you use. His blog from a product information standpoint is informative I def agree with you there. I'll stand by what I wrote: He's mainly a salesman and in that way he's informative. I wouldn't base my choice of camera on his blog though.

Ken Rockwell is the fellow who says if you shoot right in jpg, you don't need to worry about raw, and post processing etc. Okay more silver halide for soup.

I think Keith is right. Opiniated is on about Ken. He is an entertaining read. He doesn't hurt my feelings in any way. By the way the iPhone sounds fine but if you really want more you should port its audio to something more like headphone amps external dacs etc. I am around all sorts of mobile devices, and none sound great to me. IMHO.

Ok I just downloaded Dirac for the pods. It's a total joke. They have an on off switch so you can "tell the difference" it is True that while in the app the music sounds better with Dirac enabled vs not. Once you exit the app and just play through the standard music app it doesn't even come close to resembling what the off position on the Dirac app represents.
Seems to me that it is a bunch of malarkey. Maybe not intentional, but the the pods with the standard music app sound better without the Dirac app no matter if it's on or off.
On a second listen, it may just be the reduced volume that happens when your in the Dirac app that's throwing me off.

I liken Ken Rockwell to my introduction to Emotiva. Before Emo, i thought I needed to buy high dollar equipment. Then I discovered the awesome bang for buck proposition of Emotiva gear.
Likewise, before reading Ken's site, I thought I needed to someday get a bunch of L lenses. Because of him, I bought a $200 prime lens and have managed to capture some amazing pictures.
But no, I don't treat him as gospel. His recommendation to set your camera to anything less than max resolution seems odd when storage is so cheap and you never know when you might get an awesome photograph.

I think also relevance in time of advice maybe a bit out of step. Memory is cheap. Your memories, and work are priceless. Seems to me you want every advantage you can get. Shoot maximum res, make a RAW, and a JPG shot. Kind of a no brainer no matter what Ken says.

I think this is a prime example why we cannot rely on standard measurements to say...DAC's don't sound different. I mean even I can see that the measurements on that iphone were really good. But that iphone is not going to compete with my dacs.

I like most of what I read about photography from Ken Rockwell. He steered me toward several excellent cameras and flashes and almost all of his advice was spot on IMO.
