Does anyone?? Need a XMR-1? No! I would very much love to hear an Atmos multi channel system in my theater!! In case someone missed this, I'm running an 11.4 system now. Front and rear hights, separated by a matrix that creates 4 more channels. Having a system that has more channels encoded would sound better I imagine! I currently have enough stands and speakers to simulate an Atmos set-up. ( without cutting holes in my ceiling ) Back to your question,,,, need vs want,,,,, I'm not sure, that's what the return period is for. 8)

No one absolutely NEEDS Atmos. However, if you WANT Atmos, then you NEED a prepro to decode it and the XMR-1 presumably enters the picture if you are looking for either the top of the line or a very high value piece of kit. If you WANT Atmos, then you must decide if the XMR-1 is a WANT or a NEED for your system. On the other hand, let's just simplify and ask "is the XMR-1 needed or just wanted in order to satisfy you and your financial situation?" Isn't that the ultimate question? That's as philosophical as I can get and it isn't worth much!

The XMC-1 was a stop gap for him so he can get rid of audyssey in his otherwise fine sounding system. I did miss the 11.4 system you are running. Pardon me! Do you have some grey poupon? Ok fair answer. We shall see then in 2015...or 2016... or 2017 .

Can't imagine it could be better, I'm not so sure about the theater system, as I've never owned an Emotiva Pre/PRO. I've heard great and not so great things about their multi channel theater systems. Ive owned Yamaha AVRS for years and think there great, I'd very much like to compare the two systems in there roles for HT. finacialy , I've saved for a very long time and side stepped the XMC-1 because I'm am so very satisfied with my two channel. I do own a 40% card as well, waiting for something along the lines of a MXC-1. If I were to find no huge significant difference in my Yamaha and Emotiva then I will be happy, if there is a huge difference I'll have a Yamaha RX-V 3020 for sale. 30 day love it or leave it policy is a beautiful think!! Don't you agree!! In in the meantime, I'll enjoy what I have. Peace.

In my first home theater (in a house that we sold) I had a Yamaha integrated amp as the nerve center and I loved it. So I understand why you really like your Yammy. But, with your quest for the best in sound quality and also considering that you have a pair of beautiful XPR-1's that it seems the perfect match for, the XMR-1 will definitely be taking a test spin in your HT/audio room when it's released. Not to mention we all know how those blue lights excite the blue Kool-Aid in your veins, so this addition will simply be irresistible to you! I know it will be to me.....

I feel so "unworthy" running a poor man's 5.1. .....NOT +1 A good 5.1 system is better than an average 11.4 system. Plus everyone knows that Nick is a little.....well........out there I mean, seriously, how can we trust the opinions of someone who has an out of date Yamaha AVR and a pair of XPR-1's in his signature Yes, I now that they are not actually connected to each other, but still Of course Nick has a sense of humour, albeit somewhat twisted it could be said (not me of course) Cheers Gary
