I'm having an issue with my XPA-1L amp.. Speakers connected to ERT8.3's but i've tried moving the amp to another room on different speakers and cables, same problem. It does it with the inputs disconnected, or connected, it also does it in A or A/B modes... Has anyone seen this before? I've attached a recording of some music, then i stop the music and you hear the static continue.... A very unscientific recording -- made with an iPhone but you do hear the distortion and then just the static. Noisy amp.m4a (323.8 KB)

Interesting, in the same situation, same cables, same locations etc does your other XPA-1L make the same noises or is it just this one?
Cheers Gary

No. It does not. Just to clarify, I have moved the amplifier to another location, actually in my kitchen on the counter and connected to a segregated outlet, very static free type area (to ensure it wasn't some kind of discharge) Same problem Interesting, in the same situation, same cables, same locations etc does your other XPA-1L make the same noises or is it just this one? Sadly what I expected... I'm in Canada - shipping this thing might cost me more than it's worth. No. It does not. That sounds like it needs to be sent in. Probably some sort of resistor or solder gone wonky. Let me ask you a question after being left turned on for about say.....1 to 2 hours, does it still happen? Or does it go away after the first half an hour?

I listened to the recording of your amp on your original post. One of my XPA-1L Gen2's is doing the EXACT same thing. I've switched the amp from the right side to the left. I've hooked up different speakers. I've switched cords, tried plugging it in while in a completely different room. The static follows this noisy amp anywhere I have tried to trouble-shoot it and to any speaker I connect it to. Anyone know about how much to ship it back to Emotiva? Are they resolving warranty issues quickly? I'm worried because this awesome amp is out of production!
Regards,
Trent

These are great amps, ive owned 4 of them, made a mistake and sold the first two, so i ended up buying two more, still have them with no problems. I think i spent $30-$35 to ship one, maybe less. Turn around is pretty good in my experience. Id call support and ask about trouble shooting first. Could be something simple. good luck & keep us informed! Emo support is great most of the time. ps, welcome to the forum, lots of nice folks here

Could be a bad resistor or a leaky cap maybe in the pre drive. Or something as simple as a bad solder joint. A call to Emo is what I would do. See if you can buy a shipping label from them. Might be cheaper. Don't know how it works from Canada though. It is worth a shot though.

Or something's just loose inside - cold solder joint or a connector not making contact. I concur with all the previous advice - this isn't something you're likely to solve yourself. Call Emotiva.
