hello emotivans, i've been enjoying xpa-2 amp driving couple of bi-amped speakers. it is powering the woofers while another amp is driving the tweeters. yesterday, while listening to radio, xpa-2 cut off and went into protection mode. all left leds lit up red. i turned the power off and on, and it continued to work fine. for another 10 minutes or so, same cut off. i reset it again. this cycle occurred 3 or 4 times and i removed the power altogether. and left it off for an hour or so.
later in the afternoon, i turned the amp on to listen to spotify and it's been working fine ever since. no cut-off's at all. but obviously i'm worried it will return and suspect it will.
does anyone have any ideas why this would happen? and then disappear? brown-out in the house power? loose connections (i checked)?
thanks for any help...

Possibly a heat problem ?

loose connections (i checked)? Shorts across the speaker terminals or heat buildup in the amp would be the common causes. You've checked the speaker wires at both ends for any loose strands? Errant signals at the inputs (hum, high frequency oscillations) could also cause this, possibly bad interconnects. You said 'radio', did you mean FM or streaming? Maybe try the same source again to see if you can duplicate it.

yeah, i was listening to an internet radio via Touch. it was a cool day and the amp had been no more than an hour. so certainly not external heat related issue. a year or so ago, on a very hot summer day (over 90's), the amp did cut out once or twice. but this was different. every 10 minutes or so, it went into protection mode. after the program, i just shut the whole thing down.
it's been running fine for 2 days now. even jacked up the volume a while. no problem. my best hypothesis now is that power to the house perhaps fluctuated, a brown-out. could this do it?
only wrinkle to this hypothesis is that other equipment had no issues. is xpa-2 uniquely sensitive to power source?
i'm just glad it's working. i'd hate to lug that 80 pounds anywhere....

Maybe it didn't like the radio station!
sorry…no help here.

Power amps draw the most power so are often the first ones to notice a voltage drop.
