We're pleased to announce that last Friday's combined firmware update and product release went very well.
Most XMC-1 owners were able to download and install the new firmware update with no problems.
The new firmware added some exciting new features, including support for 4k/60 video, some new color options for the OSD,
the ability to save your Speaker Preset EQ configurations as files, and to import Speaker Preset EQ settings from the
popular Room EQ Wizard (REW) program. We also fixed a few small bugs, improved the functionality of the audio muting,
and added more useful options to the CEC Setup menu.
(A few people have reported a bit of flickering on the OSD now and then, which appears to be related to some timing changes we made;
we're looking into it but, rest assured, it's nothing to worry about.)
The release of both the PC and Apple versions of Dirac Live Full for Emotiva(TM) was also a big overall success.
We're pleased that lots of our customers have downloaded and installed both the PC and Mac versions of Dirac Live for Emotiva.
Installation of the PC version went smoothly for almost everyone, and a lot of people are already enjoying the increased power and flexibility it provides.
Most people were able to install and run the Apple version without too much trouble, although there are still a few people who haven't gotten it to work yet.
On that note, we have some suggestions about what you might try in order to get your Apple version of Dirac Live for Emotiva to work before you resort to calling support.
Virtually all of the issues we've heard about seem to involve networking - and the Dirac software being unable to see the XMC-1 over the network.
On a network that consists of both wired and WiFi (or all WiFi) connections, not all devices that can connect to the Internet can necessarily connect to each other.
Therefore, if you have the option, you should try the simplest network connection first - and the simplest connection is to connect both your computer and your XMC-1 to your router with Ethernet cables.
If that works, but you can't get a WiFi connection to work, then you may have routing issues with your router or the network configuration on your computer.
Another common problem is that many firewalls, and even antivirus security programs, block the ability of programs to talk to each other, or to other devices (like the XMC-1), or the Internet.
Many times you'll be asked the first time you run a program "if it should be allowed to use the network" and, if you say "No", that program will be permanently blocked (it won't ask again).
Therefore, if you're having problems, we suggest that you disable any firewall and antivirus programs you have running - at least temporarily.
Again, if that solves the problem, then you can sort out which program is causing the issue and how to reconfigure it to work correctly (start by removing the Dirac program from any "block lists").
Often, especially if your network includes more than one router or access point, one or more of those devices will simply "get confused" and stop routing all the protocols it should to the proper devices.
The simplest way to check (and to fix this) is to reset everything; which you do by turning all those devices off and then back on again.
You have to turn off ALL of your devices, especially your cable modem, routers, and access points, and your computers.
They only have to stay off for 30 seconds or so, but they MUST all be off AT THE SAME TIME; this forces them to "re-learn" about each other and the routing between them.
(Turning each off, then on again, WON'T work. You must turn them all off, wait thirty seconds, then start turning them on again. The order in which you turn them on isn't critical,
but it's usually best to turn your Internet connection device - probably your cable modem - on first, then wait a few minutes, then turn on any routers or access points, then restart any of your computers last.
You need to reboot your computers - NOT just "hibernate them". You should also know that it may take a few minutes for everything to "sync up" and start talking to each other after you turn it back on.)
Most modern Apple desktops and MacBooks should be able to run the Apple version of Dirac Live Full for Emotiva.
We've found that some older, slower Apple computers - even though they can run the software if you do it carefully - will crash if you don't treat them gently.
Normally, when you're taking measurements, you can go on to take the next measurement while the computer is still calculating results from the last one.
However, we have found that, on some older and slower machines, they will crash unless you wait for the calculations for each reading to fully complete before you take the next reading.each
If you still have trouble after this, or if you have any problems with activating your software (or if you didn't receive your activation key), give us a call and we'll be glad to help you out.
Finally, just to let you know.... the Full version of the Apple version of Dirac Live for Emotiva was completed first for software development reasons, but the LE version won't be far behind.
